Portable XBox360
I’m sure you’ve heard of the PS3 laptop. That’s some cool mod that hopefully will inspire Sony for some future console, but what about the XBox360? It seems that we’ll soon get a portable version for it, too. It might not come directly from Microsoft, but hopefully it won’t have the usual “ring of death” problems.
The XBox360 is notorious for its MS Live feature. Although it’s not free, yet, this is the biggest attraction to date, and has not seen any serious competition from either Sony or Nintendo. In case MS is planning to make a hit out of the portable version, it should carefully consider the integration of online play. This means that WiMAX technology should be shrunk and extensively implemented. Still, the wi-fi connections remain somewhat quirky while on the move, leaving us with nasty lag times. So MS should also consider better network coding for the portable games.
Another problem would be the actual game media. Disc changing on the go just isn't viable, so Microsoft will have to think of a way to circumvent this. As for the number of games available, Microsoft will really have to convince publishers and developers that their portable is better than the PSP and the DS.
