Portable SNES Console
Super Nintendo Entertainment System was my first console. I was fascinated by Super Mario World and I still consider it one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played. I showed you some portable versions of a couple of older consoles earlier this year, and I guess it was just a matter of time before somebody came up with a portable SNES.
The portable SNES you see in the above image was engineered by a guy know as Portablizer, from the Benhack forums. This is actually a commissioned project and you can find lots of photos and some explanatory clips over here.
Portablizer explains that he first thought of including power cord for the SNES, but then he did some rethinking and managed to squeeze a couple of internal lithium batteries, (3.7v 4250 mAh tied in series) which take about 2.5 hours to charge. However, he doesn’t mention how much they really last. As you can see in the pictures, the buttons are all there, even the shoulder buttons that were found on the upper rim of the original SNES controller are present, integrated on the back of the console. Inca se you want to hook it to a TV, you have the AV jack as well as a headphone connection.
From what we see in the pictures, Portablizer built quite a few of these portable SNES consoles, but he says it took so much time to build them that he isn’t planning on making any more. Anyhow, he explains the entire process, so you may take it as a DIY project.
