Non-lethal Weapons

Written on September 14, 2008 – 3:00 am | by Bogdan Alex |

Don’t you just hate it when police officers have to threaten people with guns in case they everything is out of their control? Well, that doesn’t happen all the time, they started usin water guns, electric shock guns and when they have to deal with large crowds, they even bring some shield-and-baton units. All these methods of law enforcement may leave some permanent scars on the unlucky and eventually innocent people that happen to be involved in these kinds of confrontations. In order to avoid these messy situations, the UK authorities are strongly determined to introduce a new type of weapon.

We’re talking about directed energy weapons here. This type of weapon induces an unbearable burning sensation without leaving permanent scars and other unwanted side-effects. The UK police is also considering the introduction of special 'sticky nets' which can entangle crooks while deliver a powerful electric shock, and even an adhesive gun (pictured above) which can glue people’s mouth or immobilize them by gluing their feet to the ground.

"If you give people every conceivable weapon and tactical option there is, then the training need is so great they are never actually going to be on the street," says an anonymously-sourced firearms instructor cited by BoinBoing. So the UK authorities might want to choose wisely among these weird solutions.
