New Zeebo wireless console

When it comes to videogame consoles, you probably know very well the famous companies that managed to have domination over the market. And if you were asked to give a couple of examples, I’d bet all my money on the fact that Sony PS3, the Nintendo Wii or the Xbox 360 won’t be missing your list. Because you must agree, these are the best known in the whole world.

But these companies should watch out, ‘cause a new manufacturer is in the game. The competitor is Zeebo, the latest wireless videogame console that you’ll be able to find in the market. The device is expected to start shipping in Brazil first, starting the next month.

The main advantage of Zeebo is that it isn’t targeted at the high end segment, which is dominated by the names I told you before. The point is that Zeebo will focus on the emerging global markets, being an affordable console.

“The Zeebo console will deliver a truly engaging and entertaining gaming experience to a potential billion new consumers around the world, many of whom have never experienced gaming in the home”, said John F. Rizzo, CEO, Zeebo. In addition, he said that “the system provides an intuitive, quick, and easy-to-use home shopping user experience featuring popular, culturally optimized content from leading game publishers and developers around the world. It also delivers high value and warranty protection compared to gray-market products with no need for a separate wireless access plan”.

I’m not sure how they did it, but Zeebo seems to have powerful names, both publishers and developers, to back them up, from Capcom, Com2uS, Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, Gameloft, Glu, Id Software, to Machineworks Northwest LLC, Namco Networks and THQ.

In addition, the Zeebo wireless console is a 3D one, with 3G wireless game delivery, four pre-embedded games, Qualcomm MSM chipset and BREW solution. The device has a suggested retail price of $199 for Brazil, but it is expected to start shipping for less than $179.
