MX-6000 Universal Remote Control

It’s quite hard to find a home theatre system that doesn’t include at least one remote control. You have to have a remote for almost every piece of equipment at home, save for some kitchen gadgets maybe. Now, if only we can find some cool universal remote… yes, something like The MX-6000 model from Universal Remote Control.

Watch out for this one. It’s not your average $200 universal remote. It’ll set you back $1,500, but if you already bought a $10k home theatre system, the remote won’t seem too much. Anyway the MX-6000 still has some interesting features that set it apart from what you’ve seen thus far.

According to Crave, the MX-6000 is the company's first wide-touchscreen (480x272) remote and comes as an update to the previous MX-3000. Let’s see why we should pay that much money for a remote. It know infrared and RF control, but that doesn’t count. How about Wi-Fi for easy access to your networked PC home entertainment? The remote doesn’t have a wide touchscreen just for show off. You can see cover art, artist name, and other metadata from your combined media libraries displayed on the remote's wide-screen display. Plus you get built-in modules and widgets that, when connected to the Internet, can display personalized weather reports, stocks, and news, which can be customized within the remote's interface.

The MX-6000 can be connected to Also of interest to digital media fans is the companion PSX-1, a networked iPod dock that the MX-6000 can control--dial up iPod-based music and videos on the remote, and have the content play back on your receiver or HDTV (the PSX-1 has component video output for optimal video quality).

You want my opinion? Sure, the remote has some spiffy features, but it doesn’t really scream $1,5K.
