Leonardo da Vinci Backwards Watch

You don’t get to see a watch that features the face of Leonardo da Vinci everyday. People know who this guy is and often associate him with Mona Lisa, the best known piece of art of this great painter and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived, as he was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. Ok, you can now raise your eyebrow! This really is too much for one person and I wonder if he ever had the time to, I don’t know, breathe?

But if you want to see Leonardo da Vinci’s mug all day long, you can always purchase this Backwards Watch, which will remind you that geniuses are not born with the frequency that you’re surfing the Web and that you have to do a little bit more than just reading some blogs and RSS feeds in order to be considered a human being whose seemingly infinite curiosity is equaled only by your powers of invention.

So, you can wear this Leonardo da Vinci watch on your wrist and hope that some of his knowledge will somehow transfer from the hands of your timepiece to your brain. The watch is inspired by his backwards writing or “mirror writing”, which some believe to be a code. Others think that he was just punking people in the future. However, the most likely reason for the backwards writing is that Leonardo was left handed and preferred to pull a pen as opposed to pushing it across the page (to prevent smudging).

Like the writing in his notebooks, this watch does everything backwards – the numbers on the faceplate are written and listed backwards, and the hour and minute hands move counter-clockwise as well. That should make it a real pain to tell what time it is.

If you want to purchase this device you can do it from philosophersguild.com and it will cost you $35.95, with one year warranty.
