GPS for Pets

I’ve always wanted to take care of a dog and as a kid I wasn’t allowed to keep one. I like golden Labradors and Huskies, but I’d accept German shepherds and retrievers as well, if somebody cared to make a canine present to me. While I could treat my dog as well as I can, some guys are willing to raise dogs’ standards to some near-human states. This includes a GPS device for our pooches.

We all know dogs are sometimes more curious than cats. Just when you thought they’d sit still and wait for you in some cozy spot, they go about wandering and exploring, leaving you in painful remorse and worrying for their life. Next time you leave him all by itself, remember to equip it with a pet GPS receiver. This thing attaches to your dogs collar and will alert you when he leaves the area you've defined as the 'safety zone,' be it ten feet or ten miles. In case it wanders off to some uncharted territory, the GPS device will let you know via email or text message so you can act quickly and assemble a search-and-rescue team in no time.

Your dog’s location can be tracked through a special service, which will target your pet’s location with an accuracy of 3 feet. This actually involves a monthly or yearly subscription just like a mobile phone contract. In addition, the receiver is waterproof, and will last up to 5 days on a 4 hour charge. It’s quite pricey but it could work on kids as well.

We have a small Maltese, and I think these GPS tracking devices are still a bit too big and too heavy for him. But they are getting smaller, so perhaps in near future we will be able to equip him with a neat GPS, too ;-)
