If anyone wonders what Google gadgets are, here you can find your answer. Powered by Google, these gadgets are mini applications made by Google users, having a specific destination: web pages. Aside the fact that they are cool and dynamic, they are useful too when you are at work or at home, relaxing. Gadgets can be anything from games to maps or news feed. They are written in XML code and some of them may have HTML or Javascript components.

Web pages can become much more interesting when you install these Google gadgets. From Google's page you can choose any gadget you want or like at the "Gadgets for your web page" directory, then customize it and copy-and-paste the HTML into your page's source code. Finally, click Refresh and wait for the page to reload to see your gadget. Even more, these gadgets can get to be useful for your visitors, such as date and time or your local temperature. If you are a blogger, you can use Google gadgets for your blog. Here are some suggestions: Countdown, Slim RSS Reader, YouTube gadget, Google Calendar or Date & Time.

Another use for Google gadgets is for your desktop. One of the features of Google Desktop is the sidebar, placed to one side of the desktop where you can find some common gadgets, which show new messages in your email, current weather in your area, slideshow with the pictures in your computer and personalized news. Even more, Google offers a rich gallery where you can browse in different categories for gadgets that you are interested in.

Another kind of Google gadgets is social gadgets, designed also for iGoogle. These let you share information and play games with friends. If the gadget is social, it must have an icon in the top right corner and when you click it, you should be able to see the gadget's social settings. You can also see your gadgets at canvas view with the new feature from iGoogle and thus experience more and have more content.

Some of the Google gadgets made for Google Desktop work with iGoogle too. iGoogle gadgets use Google Gadgets API and are more attracting because they interact with the user.  Here, users can also build they own gadgets with the iGoogle Gadget Maker that don't need using Google Gadgets API and can be shared with friends and family. There's only one catch: they have to belong to one of these types: Framed Photo, Google Gram, Daily Me, Free Form, YouTube Channel, Personal List, Countdown and Daily Literary Quote.

You can have a lot of fun and productivity and they can really make your desktop to look much more modern. Google gadgets are available for all operating systems, including Linux and Mac OS X users.
