Electronic Ink technology-based concept phone

E-Ink is the new trend when it comes to concept devices and this brand new Anthony Reed phone is the living proof. But for all of you out there who miss like hell colors, you might be happy to find out that full color E-ink has recently been demonstrated, so we’ll surely see handsets based on this technology soon enough.
Electronic Ink is a proprietary material that is processed into a film for integration into electronic displays. This is a revolutionary, as far as the concept is concerned, and is a straightforward fusion of chemistry, physics and electronics to create this new material. The electronic ink consists of millions of tiny microcapsules, about the diameter of a human hair. In one incarnation, each microcapsule contains positively charged white particles and negatively charged black particles suspended in a clear fluid. In the specific moment when a negative electric field is applied, the white particles move to the top of the microcapsule where they become visible the user. This way, the surface appears white at the spot. The same thing happens when an opposite electric field pulls the black particles to the bottom of the microcapsules where they are hidden. The process can be reversed, so that the black particles appear at the top of the capsule, which now makes the surface appear dark at that spot.

In order to form an E Ink electronic display, the ink is printed onto a sheet of plastic film that is laminated to a layer of circuitry which forms a pattern of pixels that can then be controlled by a display driver. These microcapsules are suspended in a liquid “carrier medium†allowing them to be printed using existing screen printing processes onto virtually any surface, including glass, plastic, fabric and even paper. Ultimately, electronic ink will allow almost any surface to become a display, bringing information out of the confines of traditional devices and into the world around us.
Despite their lamentable lack of color range, E-ink mobiles are just all the rage these days. The main draw of this E-Ink concept phone is undoubtedly the design and unusual color, because as far as the features are concerned, they are nowhere to be found.
The phone enjoys a very simple grid styling that keeps everything intact within the gray scale range of the display. If you are really into black and white, then this E-Ink phone is sure enough to make a good impression on you. The shiny exterior of the phone is a delight to the eyes. Moreover, the phone seems to have its own charging station.
