Double-sided Touchscreen
Looks like we haven’t yet figured out all the uses for LCD displays. We put the simplest ones in watches and other such small devices and we went all the way up to integrating LCD screens into multitouch displays. As always, the Japanese seem to have nothing else to do beside thinking of new ways to improve the existing technology. It comes as no surprise that they managed to concoct a double-sided touchscreen LCD.
The Japanese company known as Teraokaseiko presented the first double-sided touch display at last week's Sign & Display Show in Tokyo. DVice informs that the screen interface is based on Teraokaaseiko's proprietary transparent inorganic EL panel technology, which allows users to simultaneously access each of the two sides of the display.
Teraokaseiki already intends to immediately bring the double-sided display to the retail market and the company expects it to be used for a wide array of applications including gaming and mapping software. The touchscreen display also uses the pinching function present on the iPhone.
I don’t really know how wide the variety of uses for this touchscreen can get, but if it can allow two gamers to interact in more fun ways, providing immediate visual feedback, I'd say it's good enough.
