In a society dependent on communication, phones have become an indispensable accessory for many of us. They help us to stay in touch and communicate with the loved ones, to send messages and wishes for the holidays and be with them when they need us the most, when they need an advice or an opinion.

The phones have evolved greatly and continue to evolve, becoming more and more technologically advanced and with the ability to support a lot of new applications and features.

Companies continue to search and to invent new technologies for the phones of the future.

One cool concept phone is Nokia 888 and the design concept combines perfectly with the “Form follows you” slogan. The main idea of this concept is to create a cool phone that gives you the freedom you need, because this is a phone that is going to follow you everywhere without putting it in your pocket or in its case. Nokia 88 is a simple, carefree and light phone. The great thing about this phone is that it is able to change it’s from in every way you want to or need to. Nokia 888 has applications like flexible touch screen and voice recognition and the technologies used for this phone allows it to have a touch sensitive body cover that is able to adjust to your need.  Thanks to its liquid battery is able to change in different ways and forms: you can bend it, roll it or wear it on your wrist. You have the possibility to personalize these forms and when you want to talk on the phone or make a call, the phone’s body turns into a normal phone. This cool phone is unique due to its body form change and it is the only one that has this type of technology.



Nokia has another cool concept phone, Nokia Aeon. This phone is all about the touch screen and it is a very thin phone. This concept phone looks like it split form Science Fiction movies: the phone case has metal inserts; the phone has Bluetooh and a 2.2 inch TFT display, dual function card, 3D stereo speakers and a 3 Megapixel camera. Being in the concept mode we don’t have a lot of information regarding the release date, price or features. If you saw the movie Echelon Conspiracy, you definitely saw a concept or a prototype of Nokia Aeon. Many voices say that the movie appearance was a way of advertising used before the official and actual release.

The Polygon is a concept phone created by Alloy Total Product Design. This cool phone is special because it has a dual screen, one is a regular display and the other is a touchscreen. The regular display is large and has a high resolution. The regular screen will be used for internet browsing, to watch TV or to see photos. The touchscreen is used for navigation through the media, applications and the features of the Polygon. This cool phone won’t have a keypad, so the keypad will appear on the touchscreen. You can watch TV, movies or picture in a landscape mode or a portrait mode. This concept phone is very small and supposed to be very easy to use.



Everyone waits for the next iPhone to be released on the market; the phone can be iPhone 4G or RFR iPhone Next. The RFR iPhone Next is a special iPhone due top its possibility to be change in dimensions by closing it or by opening it. This new iPhone concept has a 5 Megapixel camera and 128GB memory. With a transparent display and an aluminum body, this concept phone wants to be the next iPhone.



It seems like Nokia has the most concept phones ideas,because the next cool phone is Nokia Unik Phone. The unique feature of this phone is its back side which is has 152 customizable squares. These squares allow you to switch them to create a lot of new models, with different materials (rubber, metal, and transparent) color (green, black, white and gold). This phone is an artistic because it lets it’s users to play with its back side look.



The next breakthrough in the phone industry seems to be transparent phones. The next Nokia concept phone is fully transparent: transparent display and a touchscreen interface. The lower part of this cool handset in where the hardware is, the battery is, a 5 Megapixel camera and the OFF/ON button. The transparent display is able to emit light, therefore you are to see and use it better during night time. The phone supposed to have Internet connection, music and video applications and a lot of new features.


Deffcon 2 Concept Phone look like it just arrived from a Science Fiction movie; this smartphone wants to be some kind of portal between the augmented reality (meaning the application, features and all functions that this smarphone has) between the real world (meaning that you will be able to see all the phone has to offer on top of real places, for example: buildings, parks or shops). If you want to watch movies on it, all you have to is to attach its back cover and the phone transforms into a “normal” phone. The phone has a 4-inch touchscreen and a 5-Megapixel camera (with touch zoom and LED Flash). In the image below you will see the cool phone taking a picture.

At the beginning of the article we said that the phone is an indispensable accessory for many of us and the next concept phone does the same thing – is becoming a fashion accessory. This phone is made especially for the ladies. The phone is crafted using any kind of metal which the user wants. The technology inside this phone creates a rotary dial and if you want to make a call, all you have to do is touch the combination you want.

Another accessory phone is the BenQ- Siemens; this cool concept phone is design to follow the snakeline. The main idea of this phone is to make it more secure (the phone actually hold’s on to you) and to make it easy to carry.


The next concept phone won at the 2008 International Design Excellence Awards the Silver medal. The Maple wood camera phone is compact with a slide feature and a touch-sensitive sensor on the back of the phone activates the backlit numbers.


The phones are great, they are a must have and even if they have state-of-the-art technology or are just simple phones, they helps us stay in touch with the ones we love and that is the most important thing they do.
