I’m not sure that you can call this device a security system without people to laugh at you, but if it keeps burglars away from your home, than you can call any way you like and you will not make a fool of yourself, and there’s no doubt about it!

Nevertheless, lights with timers can always be taken in consideration when it comes to home security, being a quite good idea that give burglars the impression that someone’s in your house when, as a matter of fact, you and your family are far, far away, on a sunny island, having the time of your lives. And if these lights with timers do their job as they’re supposed to and fool those guys into thinking that your house is inhabited just like it usually is, then you must give them some credit.

And if you don’t want to spend too much money with all sorts of security systems that are designed to be installed into your home and that are more secure, if you ask me, then a good solution would be this tiny box that simulates the flickering of a television. A great thing about this device is that, compared to other similar timers, that do nothing but to turn on and off the lights, this one is a television simulator.

If you’re wondering how such a thing works, let me tell you about its integrated microchip that “simulates the scene changes, fades, swells and color shifts of a TV perceived from outside using a bright multi-color LED display diffused with an opalescent lens”. Another advantage is that you should not fear about the power consumption, as this is a problem that was taken care of. Therefore, this cheap security system consumes only 2% of the power of a regular TV. More than that, added to the manual control, there’s a light sensor that automatically turns the simulator on at dusk.

The device measures 3 x 4 x 3 inches and weighs approximately 10 ounces and plus into AC with its adapter, which is included in the package. If you’re interested in having your own television simulator and saving energy, you can purchase from Hammacher Schlemmer for $39.95.
