Coolest Pen Drives

Monday, March 8th, 2010 |

Pen drives are one of the coolest and smallest gadgets you can have. They are very useful and easy to carry, because you can store a lot of information into a small device. My iDuck is one of the coolest pen drives we found on the market. This storage device is perfect for all the animal lovers out-there and it made from soft plastic. The body of this cute duck glows in the dark and you have a lot of colors to choose from: transparent, blue, orange, yellow, pink with hearts.

If you use is USB flash drive you can also improve the performance of your operating system, because it comes with a feature named ReadyBoost which allows the USB flash drive to be used as extra RAM by your operating system (this feature works only with Windows Vista).

Other great looking pen drives are the next one made in Japan. They are called the USB Sushi Memory Sticks and they are very popular nowadays. The memory sticks include maki design, salmon design, roe design, shrimp design and more. The flash drives have a storage capacity between 1 GB and 8GB, the price varies depending on the design and the storage capacity. For example, the 8GB sushi design flash drive comes with a price of $29.99 and the 1GB tuna sushi USB drive can be found at $9.99.

One of the coolest and the strangest pen drives is the Flashbag. This USB flash drive has a micro pump that inflates the flash drive, well not the flash drive but the bag around the pen drive. When the flash drive is empty the bag is flat, but as you add information on the pen drive the bag becomes fatter and fatter. When there is no more storage space a message will appear on the screen to tell you that: “There is not enough free space” and the bag will be inflated to its full potential.

Corsair Flash Survivor comes with an aluminum shell which makes it shock-proof and water-resistant. The pen drive comes with 10-year warranty and it can be found on Amazon. The storage capacities are of 8GB and 4GB.

i-Disk Vogue is a stylish  USB drive which the ladies can wear it as a necklace. This fashion accessory looks great and comes with a storage capacity of 1GB. The price for this cool pen drive is about $30. This could be a nice gift for your girlfriend.

i-Disk Charm from Pretec is a nice looking pen drive with a storage capacity of 8GB and it comes with a Japanese symbol which means blessing and good fortune. This symbol is used as a guardian of fortune and also as a good luck symbol. This USB flash drive works with the following operating systems: Linux, Windows and Mac. The price for this flash drive is about $50.

Is your iPhone battery to weak for your intensive usage? We know how frustrating that is. But fortunately the iPhone success leaded to a big accessory market. The mophie Juice Pack Air Case and Rechargeable Battery for IPhone 3G, is the best solution to recharge your iPhone battery on the go without using a charger. The case should improve the iPhone 3G battery life up to 50%. The mophie Juice Pack Air case is easy grip; it offers a full protection of a hard shell case and a built in rechargeable battery. This case is too form-fitting; it is easier to slide the iPhone in than to take it out; with the case on the phone the best way to take if off is to push it out, one side at a time. Push on the side of the case where the volume keys are and slide it slowly.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

Repeat the process to the other side and the top of the case will slide off. You can now pull the phone out of the case. However the form fitting is not necessary a bad feature, because it will keep your iPhone secure and will protect it in case you drop your phone. Also the case is ultra thin and weights little in order to compete with the useless but high fashioned metal cases. The low profile case design hides a rechargeable 1200 mAh lithium polymer battery (with standby values up to 270 hours). Theoretically the case allows USB charging and sync with iTunes. In the real life field the cable offered with this case is more bad than good. The phone covered with the mophie Juice Pack Air doesn’t succeed charging itself.

The same happens when you try to listen through the USB port of either stereo speakers or car stereo; while the syncing with iTunes is not as smooth or easy to happen. Your iPhone will just appear and disappear from the iTunes connected decide. However these are singular issues and are not general spread to all models of mophie Juice Pack. When you use continuously your iPhone, the battery will reach pretty fast 20% of its full capacity. The usage time to 20% is about 4 hours and 12 minutes and standby time has a value of 14 hours and 13 minutes. Then if you turn on the mophie Juice Pack and let it charge your iPhone battery for about 1.5 hours. After a heavier use, when the internal battery drops down to 20%, the full usage time of the iPhone reached 8 hours and 36 minutes and standby time of 19 hours and 54 minutes.

At the third charging with the mophie Juice Pack Air the iPhone’s battery reached 9 hours and 24 minutes as usage time and a standby time of 22 hours and 17 minutes. After the third charge, the mophie Juice Pack Air runs out of power. Therefore the mophie Juice Pack Air case and rechargeable battery offers twice the battery power for the iPhone 3G.

The case is an easy grip touch case. When charging the iPhone 3G with the case on, both the iPhone and the mophie Juice Pack Air charge their built in batteries at the same time. The case offers USB charging and sync with iTunes for the iPhone.  The case dimensions are, as featured in the commercial ads, very form fitting, offering a light weighted and slim form case for the iPhone 3G. It has a height of 12.4 cm, wide of 6.6 cm and deep of 1.9 cm; while the released values of talk time reaches up to 4.5 hours on 3G network and up to 9 hours on 2G.

You can use the Internet up to 4.5 hours on 3G and up to 5.4 hours on Wi-Fi. The audio playback is up to 20 hours, while the video playback is up to 6 hours. Other special features offered by the mophie Juice Pack Air are: on and off switch for you to choose what battery to use (the phone battery or the case battery) and integrated 4 LED charge status indicator. But this case is not all that great, it still has some drawbacks. The case requires a special plug, used on digital cameras (but smaller), to charge the battery. It is not recommended for your mophie case well being to take it off every time you need to charge it. Also the case does not contain a dock connecter offered on the iPhone. Therefore, with the case on, your iPhone will not connect with any of the accessories with the regular charging port to function. Also this case will provide more power but not as much as you might think.

If your battery is lowered to about 20% you can expect the 1200 mAh built in rechargeable battery from the mophie case to give your iPhone 3G another 50% battery life. However if the phone battery drops under 5% the case will not charge your iPhone rapidly enough, therefore your phone will run out of power. The finish on the case makes it a bit slippery and also is not shockproof. Beside the actual case, mophie delivers in the box an USB cable for charging and syncing and that is it.

Overall, the design of the mophie Juice Pack Air is solid. It’s slimmer than other battery pack cases, because of the materials used it feels nice at touch, status lights on the back are a great feature, micro USB port allows you to sync to your computer. As a technical feature, the iPhone internal battery has to offer in terms of usability, 4 hours and 12 minutes, while the iPhone with the case offers in the same terms up to 9 hours and 24 minutes. This case is a compromise. It offers extra battery life for you to use your iPhone for business or pleasure. It’s a compromise because fashion is over function (you might be losing signal strength – about two line on average).

USB Flash Drive Necklace

Monday, July 6th, 2009 |

If I were to wear a necklace, I wouldn’t go for a USB drive to have it around my neck, as stylish as it may be. I don’t know, but I’d rather keep the device in another place, I think it’s more appropriate, even if wearable gadgets are all the rage these days. I suppose it’s comfortable, I can’t say it’s not, but this isn’t an option for me.

But for those who think that a USB flash drive necklace is precisely what they need, here we have a brand new device to satisfy your needs. I have to admit that, compared to other such devices, this one isn’t as bad and as covered with crystals as others that you might have seen.

The drives come in a wide variety of styles that are said to look very stylish, being a proof of good taste. That’s what they say, but you know how it is: if the manufacturer doesn’t praise up the product, then who?

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

On the other hand, the drives come in different sizes, so you’ll be able to choose between the 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB versions. These you can see in the picture are a pair, as they feature the Male and Female symbols, and they can be purchases either together or separately. If you want them both, they will cost you $99.99.

What you should know is that none of the drives have a satisfying price, as the most affordable of them all costs $49.99, while the most expensive is $139.98.

Best web cam is in fact a USB drive

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 |

I hate it when I’m in the position of guessing what kind of device I have in front of my eyes and I’m not able to tell whether it’s a web cam, for example, or an MP3 player, or, why not, even a USB drive. I hate it because it’s rather confusing to never know the “identity” of a certain gadget, if I may say so.

Take this USB 2-in-1 Web Cam, offered by Brando, for example. At first glance, I wouldn’t have guessed that there’s a USB drive stuffed inside. I had to read a little bit about it in order to figure it out.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

As you can see for yourselves, this isn’t the most impressive web cam that you’ve seen so far, aesthetically speaking, of course, but being a mixture between a web cam and a USB drive might be enough for those who weren’t convinced about it in the first place.

The web can is able to turn 360 degree and to swing 180 degree. It is able to record videos at 30 frames per second, the white balance, the exposal control and the flash control are all automatic, it is able to send video e-mails and it has video recording and video conference capabilities. Other features, on the other hand, include the USB 2.0 interface, no driver requirements for Windows XP and Vista and a storage capacity of 2GB.

The device measures 70 x 29 x 102 millimeters and weighs 92 grams. It can be purchased right away for $33.00, from Brando.

USB hubs made of LEGO basic bricks

Saturday, May 16th, 2009 |

Maybe we are accustomed to see the LEGO bricks in an entirely different context, where children are trying to express their imagination in the best way possible, but it’s not unusual to see more and more gadgets made of the famous LEGO basic bricks. Gadgets that are all aimed at grown-ups, of course, because otherwise it wouldn’t be a surprise for anyone and the issue wouldn’t raise so many discussions.

It’s not the first time to see such gadgets, because we’ve witnessed before the apparition of an Alcatel phone made of LEGO bricks or of digital cameras, video camera, MP3 players and walkie talkies, all made of the famous bricks.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

This is why an accessory for the desktop is more than welcome as long as it looks like… guess what? A LEGO brick. These USB hubs are designed by Systown and they are perfect for the gadgets I’ve mentioned earlier, adding three more ports to the ones you already have. The main disadvantage is the fact that they are kind of difficult to get, because they are available only in Korea. Therefore, if you don’t happen to live there or to have a vacation planned in this country, the chances for you to have a LEGO USB hub are actually zero.

If, on the other hand, purchasing one isn’t a mission impossible for you, then you should know that DCX is selling these hubs for 15,290 KRW (meaning no more than $12).
