Surround Sound Chair

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 |

Heavy night, last night, and hell of a day at work? All you need is some relaxing moments and a good sleep. You just need to lock yourself up in your room and enjoy the new surround sound chair.

It’s from the guys that brought you the Plasma-Lift Conference Table with built-in 42-inch plasma monitor.. The wonder-chair comes equipped with five speakers and it also includes a 12″ subwoofer to literally rock your hind. This chair is specifically built to prevent sound from reflecting off the walls and the ceiling and thus gives a sublime experience.

The chair has two speakers in front of you, mounted on a pivoting tubing that can be fully adjusted. Two flared sound vents sit next to your ears, where the head-rest should be, but they actually look like small trumpets rather than sophisticated speakers. And for some deep bass sounds, you got a nifty subwoofer that sits beneath the chair. The chair itself sports some plushy and retro flavors, neatly finished in wood, perfect for you to hop in with some munchies, while watching your favorite movies.

Now all you need to do is spend $3000 and you got yourself a comfy sound system.

Sony Sound Recorders

Sony has launched recently 2 new gadgets that can help you record voices and other sounds, the ICDUX70 and ICDUX80. Both recorders come in 1Gb and 2GB storage capacity variants and they can also be used as mp3 players: ICDUX70 and ICDUX80 have the ability to playback MP3 files and record in MP3 stereo format. The stereo recording is done through the built-in microphone, and can be transferred to the PC through the USB port without the need of special software (it acts like a memory stick). The USB connection also provides recharging for the internal batteries and the recorders can be also used as storage devices. The ICDUX70 will be available in black and pink colors, while the ICDUX80 will come in black and silver colors. Both recorders should be available this month, but no prices were announced yet.

Creative Aurvana X-Fi Headphones

Since we’re still into the topic of audio gadgets, and you’ve just read about the Home Cinema sound from Logitech, here’s another solution from Creative, from their “legendary” X-Fi product series, namely the Aurvana X-Fi series. The Aurvana earphones are quite well known to the mp3 player users, because they bring out the best sound a set of earphones can have, therefore we wouldn’t expect any less from the headphone set.

Aurvana X-Fi

With the Active Noise Cancellation the Auravana X-Fi will introduce you to an entirely new acoustic environment without outside noises. X-Fi Crystalizer restores the details and vibrancy lost in compressed music such as MP3.

X-Fi CMSS-3D positions vocals and instruments ‘around’ you for more natural listening. The precise 40mm Neodymium drivers ensure high-fidelity results, while premium cushioning keeps you comfortable for many hours. “We believe these headphones will transform personal listening,” says John Keybeck, European Brand Manager. “By combining our award-winning Xtreme Fidelity technologies with the latest and best in noise reduction, we think we have created an acoustic environment that sounds as good as it looks, satisfying the most demanding listeners”, he added.

Z Cinema Advanced Surround Sound System

Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System

The latest fashion in watching movies is to use your “multi-purpose machine” (aka the desktop PC or Notebook) in order to watch your favourite DVDs and digital videos. And the hardware makers are aware of that – so that is why they come up with very tempting solutions and good prices. Ok, so you have your DVD, you set up your PC with the latest high-tech wide screen display, you’re almost ready but there’s something missing – without a very good sound system, all the special audio-visual effects from the movies are pointless. They are meant to bring some sense of “reality” from the story you’re watching. There are a lot of 5.1 sound systems which are pretty good, but their price is quite restrictive. Even the price of the 2.1 Z Cinéma Advanced Surround Sound System from Logitech is quite over the top – $300. However, this makes us wonder what is so special about this sound system. The main features are: surround sound without rear speakers (SRS® TruSurround HDâ„¢ gives you the impression that you’re in the center of the action from the movie you’re watching), high performance audio (an 8-inch long-throw subwoofer with flared bass port gives you powerful, distortion-free bass) and pure digital fidelity that offers 24bit sound quality. The sound set comes with a remote as well which helps you in using the Media Center program from Windows Media Center (both XP 2005 and the Vista version), to manage your TV programs, playlists, Internet radio and much more. This remote control with the overall quality does “explain” in a way why the price is a bit high – but who needs a good system knows that really good value doesn’t come cheap.
