I see more and more people using Bluetooth headsets and I might get one as well for my future smartphone (might be a Nokia or a SE Xperia). Since all of the upcoming products are supposed to integrate support for the Bluetooth 2.1 standard, I could get a BlueAnt V1, which is said to be the forst Bluetooth 2.1 headset.

According to DVice, the BlueAnt V1 headset uses an advanced voice interface that lets you ask the headset “What can I say?” and the headset will answer you with a list of possible commands (pairing, voice dialing, answering calls and others). Even more so, you won’t be needing to read boring instruction manuals, as the BlueAnt V1 comes complete with audio tutorials that walk you through its functions.
Noisy environments can always give you a headache when using a headset, and BlueAnt was aware of this annoying issue when they included a dual microphone featuring the Voice Isolation Technology that separates your voice from background noise. You actually get a clearer voice with echo/ambient noise/windy effects cancellation.
Other features include an upgradeable firmware, three charging options (car, phone and USB) and it can pair with eight devices at the same time. Weighing only one ounce, together with its included battery that lasts five hours of continuous use and 200 hours standby, your ears are up for some nice treat.

As if the Japanese weren’t setting enough trends for every conceivable aspect of life, they now have a special design project dubbed KDDI AU that is meant to create all sorts of crazy devices that would, sooner or later, be commercialized and become a standard.
Their latest concept devices can e seen on display in Tokyo. An important segment is represented by cellphones coming in various forms and with various unique functions. A good example for this segment seems to be the Box To Play. According to DVice, this sleek concept device is sort of a combination between a cell phone, complete with the usual call and camera functionsn, and a peculiar music device which appears to include a tiny embedded turntable that allows you to scratch the music playing on the phone.

Even more, the phone also includes a neat feature that lets you transform the device into a box which displays a music visualizer similar to what we see in Winamp. But this is not the only interesting phone that KDDI came up with. There are a bunch of other crazy phones that can pe transformed into musical instruments. Go ahead and check them all out on the KDDI AU official site (it’s in Japanese, but you’ll find your way).

Apple iPhone and Samsung Instinct are up for some serious competition in a couple of months. You might have heard that Google wants to launch its own smart phone based on the Android platform and this is going to happen pretty soon. According to TmoNews, T-Mobile US was chosen by Google to be the first network to sell Android based devices and the company already announced that is going to organize a special pre-sale event sometime next month during which the handset will be available for a special price of US$150 as long as you’re a T-Mobile customer.

Although many companies offered to integrate the Android platform with their handsets, Google seems to like the HTC offer better. Thus, an HTC handset dubbed G1 is set to be launched first, although previous rumors were pointing towards the HTC Dream. As far as features go, the first Google Android handset will integrate a slide-out keyboard, a 127×76 mm wide touch screen and a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor. It should be coming standard with 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of flash, while it is supposed to handle 3G connections through a 3.6 Mbit/s HSDPA modem.
The G1 is expected to cost US$399 with a new contract.

Nokia tried to get on the portable console market with the N-Gage telephone, but that didn’t turn out right. Recent rumors presented Sony and Ericsson working on a console cellphone that would compete with the Nintendo’s DS and, “incidentally”, Sony’s PSP. Of course, there are other obscure Asian companies that try to bring competitive cellphone consoles to the market, but no one seems to be paying attention to these efforts. Here to change all that (or not?) is the new Spice X-1, the mobile phone/console with a dedicated gaming controller.

What’s so special about this new iteration? Spice X-1 features a pretty big 2.4-inch screen and comes with a 2-GB expandable memory card. The card is already packed with pre-loaded games and a gaming console firmware, to enhance you mobile gaming needs. We all know that the keys on a cellphone can’t really compare to the ones found on a dedicated controller. That’s whet Spice X-1 comes with a dedicated controller that can be used with other consoles as well.
According to Ubergizmo, X-1 also integrates a 2 MP camera, a Yamaha-amplified 3-D surround sound system, FM radio with record and play feature and Bluetooth. Spice doesn’t say anything about the video capabilities of the cellphone. For Internet browsing, the cellphone uses Opera mini.
The Spice X-1 is now available from Spice Mobiles Limited in India for about $210.
