Have you ever wandered around the city on hot summer nights, just for fun, going to places people don’t go too often, going to the older edges just to explore the architecture? Have you ever stopped, even for a second, to admire and sigh at wonderfully decorated terraces with hundreds of flowers flowing over the walls? This is what truely architecture means; the wonders humans can do with only two hands and a rich imagination.

On the opposite pole of the old houses and buildings are the ones recently built in big cities across the globe, which are mainly made out of steel and glass. Still, not skyscrapers are the most wonderful buildings existing in our days, but the ones with an incredible design and architecture that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Just stare, take a picture and say a pray for that miracles did by simply humans continue every day.
And while some of the buildings are just strangely shaped or, even better, take different shapes (sheep, chickens, boots, strawberry and the list can go on), some are more impressive as being the headquarters of different museums, banks or libraries. As with any famous painting or photograph, cool architecture is best savored up close and personal, from multiple angles, in person, so a visit to New York is a must as soon as possible, even though you’re not such a big fan of art.
In many ways, it is a wonder that skyscrapers were ever built and somehow, they still last. After the attacks in September 11, 2001, many said that the skyscrapers era was dead and gone, and new investors were to build now more stable buildings with common-sence designs. Wrong. Proof that multiple very weird, cool and breathtaking buildings still exist and are still build, only by taking into consideration the 2008 Olympiad Stadium build in China or the newly biggest building in the world, the Burj al Dubai business tower. Panama is certainly one of the coolest places in the World. For the last ten years or so, it was also the cheapest place in the world, and many people found out that they could retire earlier and leave with their savings abroad, living a high comfort existence in the sunny Panama. In 2003 the prices were extremely low and a cold beer costed only 25 cents, while you could eat a full meal with as less as 2 dollars. But since all good things come to an end or, in more capitalistic words, come to a development, good ol’ Panama became assaulted by hundreds of people willing to live their comfort zone and move to another country. And because the little country functions also on the principle of supply and demand, developers entered the stage and started leveling up the prices. In our days, prices in Panama are still affordable and you could still live that confy life you’ve always dreamed of, but it is certainly not the cheapest place in the world anymore.

Still, if you want to retire at 19, 39, 59 or so on and you reckon Panama is a viable option, you still have to bear in mind that it is, after all, a foreign country, no matter how close can seem from the United States. Having said that, you should be prepared to face cultural differences, language differences and, all in all, life style differences. Just like most South Americans, the people from Panama have another way of setting boundaries, giving information or seeing the problems. So, don’t expect to wait less than an hour if you go for lunch with your friends, which could also immediately turn into a whole day “salida”, dancing in discos until 5 in the morning. Also, people here have a different perception of time, when it comes to services or work; this is why all problems are being solved in the end, but unless you are willing to wait for three days to get specialized help for your problem, you have to keep your cool and act like normal.
Now, if we are referring to the coolest places inside the country where you could retire, spend a holiday or have fun, here are some suggestions: The best known city from Panama, is, of course, the capital itself, Panama city. Prestigious neighborhoods like Alto de Golf, Dos Mares abound with greenery and flowers. It also has perhaps the best shopping in Central America, therefore it attracts visitors from neighboring countries. Due to a long-time U.S. presence in the country, American products are easily found and prices are similar to what they are in the States.
Balboa is an area once called the “Canal Zone”. It looks just like a microcosm of the US, with wide palmtrees on the boulevards, streets and houses built in the typical American way. Plus, it’s less expensive than Miami or L.A., so what are you waiting for? Retiring?

Giving names can be a fun game to play at a certain age but it can turn into a really big trouble once we grow up. I’m sure we all wanted to have different names once we were youngsters, but after we became mature we tried to understand our parents too and stop blaming them and asking the same question “what in the world were you guys thinking??” Sure, giving names and coming up with the most interesting ones can be a hard work, since not only your future babies can be the ones that need new names. Imagine having to create a game, a scenario or a story from the bottom to the top without the help of anyone; it can be really frustrating, right? And since you can have a pretty good story, you still need the names of the characters. You want them to be suggestive, funny, fantastic or even surreal to best suit your plot. Great writers before us spent entire weeks, days and nights, wondering about the names they will put on their stories, fictive or not.
