Cool desktop accessories

Friday, January 23rd, 2009 |

You have to be cool in this superficial world we live in if you want to identify yourself with people around you. It’s a must, so that you know, otherwise you’ll find yourself in a very unpleasant position, not knowing what to do in order to make your voice heard. And if you want to be cool, you will have to work on your attitude, that’s a fact, but you will also have to revise your collection of gadgets and accessories.

And maybe you should take into consideration the Tunelight MP3 Speaker System, which is, in fact, just another iPod dock, as if there weren’t already enough similar devices on the market. But (pay attention to this one, it will make you laugh!) this iPod dock is different from others that your eyes might have been blessed to see, because it does more than just playing your favorite music.

The Tunelight MP3 Speaker System was designed for those who are afraid of chaos and want to keep their desks organized. After all, what people need when it comes to setting up their desks, consists of two things and two things only: a task light and, of course, an organizer. But you know what? This speaker system I am trying to speak highly of (gratuitously) does more than you’ve expected.

Therefore, it is perfect for holding your office supplies such as paperclips, writing tools, markers and so on. On the other hand, being compatible with any MP3 player and iPod, as the connection is made through the headphone jack, you can listen to the songs you love most while taking a short break from the projects you’re working on a regular basis. This means your iPod won’t be charged while listening to music, but at least you’re given the chance to have a little bit of fun. Well, it’s not like your personal computer can’t do the same, but that’s that. As far as the light is concerned, it is included with a 20W halogen bulb, which is very efficient with regard to the energy.

So, if you’re anxious about animating your collection of cool desktop accessories, then go grab the Tunelight MP3 Speaker System from Gracious Home for $19.99, being available in two color versions, black or silver.

Apple Keyboard concept

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 |

If you own your very own Apple computer system, then you most certainly are familiar with the Apple keyboard that were produced in time by the American multinational corporation that is so very well known worldwide.

And maybe they aren’t what you could call genuine pieces of art, being quite regular, but you might change your mind with regard to the Appple-branded keyboards when seeing the concept I am going to how you in the following paragraphs.

This is a concept that makes all the sense in the world, as it comes equipped with all the keys that are necessary and required by the Mac OS X environment. Besides these keys, other important aspects refer to the induction charge and the sync segment that is placed on the right side and that is designed to hold the Apple device that you own, whether it’s an iPhone or an iPod. What you must take into consideration is the fact that the sync segment is compatible with the most recent generations of the above-mentioned handsets.

But this is not a brand new idea, as we’ve had the chance to see a similar concept, a notebook that also incorporated an iPhone, announced by a company called OLO. Unfortunately, the notebook shared the same fate as other concepts that never become reality, remaining in the concept phase.

The Apple keyboard concept comes with six programmable OLED keys that are designed to open up the application or the websites you like, whenever they are pressed. Even if this isn’t a real product that people can find in the shop windows, the designer made a suggestion as far as the price is concerned: $79.99. Too bad you just can’t touch this!

One more step to the best ergonomic keyboard

Friday, January 16th, 2009 |

When someone makes the mistake of telling how wrong you are when it comes to your attitude concerning your health, you tend to become violent. Maybe the word it’s an exaggeration and I agree, but you get angry because that certain someone dares to show you the truth, a truth you know very well but you’d rather keep it for yourself.

And I’ll take my example to prove my case. When people told me that prolonged hours spent in front of the computer will have the worst consequences possible, the only thing I did was to laugh at everyone’s faces and tell them to mind their own business. I’ve been rude, but I had a reason for acting this way: I knew how bad things are, but I couldn’t just admit that I was wrong.

So now my back hurts like hell, my spine is far from being alright, and I’ve come so far that I hate sitting in a chair. More than that, I’m waiting for the moment when my fingers to show some signs of despair. Maybe I’m paranoiac, but repetitive strain injuries are a fact and happen more and more to people who use the computer.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

A solution that helps us all avoid this problem is an ergonomic keyboard, the first step to an ergonomically correct position. And here it is the Smartfish Pro:Motion Keyboard, which looks pretty normal, if you ask me, but it incorporates motors that shift the angle of the keyboard and the separation between keys several times during the day, so the wrist don’t stand a chance in resting too long in the same position. The keyboard is provided with seven “stations” the keyboard rotates through.

There are still plenty other similar devices to come until the day we will be able to say that we’re dealing with the best ergonomic keyboard, but the Smartfish Pro:Motion Keyboard is here to solve your RSI problems in the meantime. And it can be yours for $130, from EverythingUSB.

Desktop 3D scanner from RealView

Friday, January 9th, 2009 |

Another innovation that is to be seen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which is held these days in Las Vegas, Nevada is a desktop 3D scanner designed and developed by RealView. RealView 3D Corporation, a Rochester, NY-based company, uses the technology they developed for all sorts of medical cameras in order to bring affordable 3D imaging products on the market.

3D scanners aren’t something what people can find all over the place, so they should be thrilled to know that a company thought of such a necessity. RealView has just announced its first desktop 3D scanner, which is based on a special technology, the 3D image capture one, developed and used for medical cameras.

This is a first as far as the 3D scanners are concerned, and maybe you are entitled to have your fear with regard to the price of this device. However, worry no more, because RealView decided to launch the product with a low price, so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of scanning and capturing objects “in full topographical 360 degrees 3D”.

The image that you captured with this scanner can be reproduced and visualized from any advantageous point. The only thing you should do is to use a mouse in order to position the right angle. More than that, the topographical 360 degrees 3D scan can be forwarded anywhere that you like, from web based documents to online catalog or online auctions.

“Topographical 360 degrees 3D capture is the next logical step in image capture and display for e-tailers”, said the founder of RealView 3D, JJHoward. This means that topographical 360 degrees 3D is a ground-breaking technology that will take online auctions (take E-Bay for example) to another level, as well as online catalogs and PDF files.

There are no details yet about the price and availability of this desktop 3D scanner, but by the time the product hits the mass production it will be in the spotlight at CES 2009.

Firebird, the new HP gaming box with Voodoo DNA

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 |

You must remember the collaboration between Hewlett-Packard and the Voodoo PC team that ended in a computer system known under the name HP Blackbird 002. The Palo Alto-based company knew how to take advantage of that experience, reinventing somehow the range of HP computer systems. Despite the appellative used by most of the reviewers with regard to the Blackbird, which is “behemoth”, the main and only disadvantage of the system was the high price, which made it unaffordable for most of the people.

This problem seems to be taken care of with the brand new HP Firebird PC 803, a gaming box stuffed with “Voodoo DNA” that is meant to replace the Blackbird, continuing the tradition of the HP-Voodoo partnership. A very important aspect is the fact that Firebird comes in a much easier to install form factor.

Anyway, the features that leaked on the Internet reveal a system that is able to satisfy regular PC gamers and they include: NVIDIA nForce 760i SLI chipset with a Core 2 quad Q9550 2.83 GHz processor, 4 GB of DDR2 RAM (which can be expanded to 8 GB), a dual NVIDIA GeForce 9800 Cards, two SATA drives of 320 GB, Blue-ray (which is optional), a card reader (which is 5-in-1), 6 USB ports, 1 FireWire, 1 S/PDIF and 1 DVI dual-link, Bluetooth connectivity and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

As a solution for saving space and heat, this HP gaming box is provided with an external power supply, while the disc drive and the majority of other components are placed on the sides. In addition, the system is equipped with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

The relevant information, such as price and availability, is still unknown, even if rumors say that the new HP gaming box is expected to be released on January 9, at a price of approximately $1,800. No wonder, if I may say so, as it has the Voodoo brand on it.
