Electrolux Inspiro Oven

I know your grandmother is the best cook in the world, but what do you do when you are far away from her and still want to get a taste of that delicious stuffed turkey, or whatever she cooks best? You could go to a restaurant, but that doesn’t guarantee anything and could also set you back an unnecessarily large sum of money. Otherwise, you could save all that restaurant money and get yourself an intelligent oven.

Our old folks from Electrolux are preparing to launch a revolutionary new oven called Inspiro. According to Electrolux this is the first oven that automatically selects the right heating mode based on the contents of the oven. You’d say you’ve already seen this in conventional “smart” ovens, which just measure the air temperature with a thermometer and regulate it with a thermostat. That is a thing of the “dark ages,” dear gourmand. Inspiro uses sensors to calculate the precise combination of energy consumption and time needed to bring the food to the correct temperature. This is similar to the way cameras now automatically set aperture, exposure time and focus, depending on the light and what’s in the frame. Hmmm, does Inspiro have a PowerPC eight-core CPU for those computations?

But how exactly does Inspiro replace your grandmother’s cooking skills? To cook that delicious stuffed turkey of yours, for example, select the category “roasting” via the touch control, then choose whether the meat should be rare, medium or well done. The oven is capable of indicating which level to put the tray on - in a cold oven. From that cold start, Inspiro calculates the energy consumption and time needed to raise the temperature of the meat to the desired level. Not that computation-intense after all. But wait, that information is then combined with its database of professional cooking techniques to calculate what combination of heating modes is required (top, bottom, side, hot air, or grill) to ensure the desired result. Do I smell an Internet connected intelligent oven?
