Nobody can live without gadgets and, let’s face it, it is like they were invented for students to use them. If a decade ago, the coolest gadgets for an average college student were considered to be PCs or rudimentary forms of cellphons, in the last few years technology exploded and we are practically invaded by gadgets everywhere. From last generation smartphones to music players, bluetooth devices, headphones or intelligent pencils, college students remain notorious consumers of technology and barely launched gadgets.

Most used gadgets for college students
Apart from the well-known laptop that students seem to cannot breathe without, 3G and smart phones, college students also might use PDAs, music players, e-Readers or xm radio receivers.
5 Gadgets that students must have
Students now-a-days are faster and getting used to latest technologies faster than anyone else. As the competition is strong and one wants to make himself noticed, students have taken additional burden on themselves. In contrast to that, some have started using latest technology to create a more proper self-image, intercommunicate through methods like internet surfing, blogging or what else. But because these activities need to come in hand in every location and because students are always on a rush, here’s a list of things one student should always wear close:
- Kindle or Sony Reader Touch Edition
- Laptop and USB drive.
- Casio Advanced Scientific Calculator
- iPhone
- Livescribe Pulse
Other college students, that waste time going to classes once in a while, might also use other gizmos in order to facilitate their note taking activity. Talk of necessity, introduction to the geeky world, productivity – they have in them to talk of it all and the list includes the following:
- Livescribe pulse pen (to note down anything you want to read later and listen to)
- Kindle (to read e-books in a better way and find from a source of millions, quite a library eh?)
- Dictaphone (record professor’s lectures)
- book scanner (you see it)
If gadgets were originally invented in order to facilitate one’s existence, some of them are simply useless inventions and time consumers by college students especially. But the “traditional” ones remain the most useful ones in the variety, so laptops are used worldwide by students in order to write homework, make projects, read online books and so on. Also, cellphones are being used by the age segment 12-25 the most worldwide because so many interesting things happen daily in a student’s life.
Still, what is alarming in some cases is that technology has become a very important part of a teen’s life, that youngsters have forgot how to enjoy simple things like walks in the park or intercommunication. Because of the avalanche of technological gadgets used among youngsters and college students, people tend to transfer their life into a virtual field and forget how to socialize for real, without constantly using texts, pokes, friend requests or smiley faces.

“Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers” is an animated series produced by Walt Disney and created by Tad Stones and Alan Zaslove. These cartoons are presenting the adventures of the famous characters Chip & Dale only that in a whole new different setting. Now Chip & Dale are more serious and they have started a detective agency, with the help of their friends: Gadget, Monterey Jack and Zipper. They are trying to solve the crimes that are “too small” for the police and usually their clients are other animals.

Today we’ll discuss about the female character from their team of detectives, Gadget Heckwrench. She is a female mouse that has blue eyes and an interesting feature – the color of her hair changes from one episode to another. Sometimes her hair is blond, other times it is orange or even close to red. But the producers didn’t do this on purpose, and it is just because of the color palette that they used on that time. She is usually wearing a pair of lavender mechanic’s coveralls, with a purple belt and a pair of goggles that she keeps on her forehead. This is her usual outfit, but of course in some episodes she is dressed in other ways too, depending on the situation.
And since her name is Gadget, she couldn’t be anything else than an inventor. She is a combination of the “cute girl next door” with an obsessed inventor. She is usually friendly with everyone and she is loyal to her friends and helps them any time they need. She makes most of the characters feel good around her because of her personality and there are just a few persons that she doesn’t like – and these are usually the villains.
She is always thinking, and trying to invent all sorts of new things but sometimes she has troubles on finding just one way to do things. But after she finds it, she can invent really fast. Sometimes she can even be naive and may not understand exactly what Chip, Dale or other characters want her to invent. Sometimes she is really excited about her inventions and she begins to talk in a scientific language and really fast. When this happens the others remain quiet and they don’t have a clue about what she just said, but this doesn’t seem to bother Gadget Hackwrench.
As we said before, she is really nice and friendly, but she has a limit too. And when someone annoys her she can get really mad and even aggressive. But luckily these events are rare, and most of the time she is a really cool character.
Even though she is a good inventor, sometimes her inventions are not working as they should. And a sign that usually lets the other characters know that an invention may not work perfectly, is when Gadget says “should work with no problems”. And most of the times when she says this, it happens the exact opposite.

The coolest software has to be free, because if it isn’t not many of us could enjoy the features and the applications it has to offer. So, in the next lines we are going to present the coolest free software you can find online. Let’s star with Inkscape which is an open source vector graphics editor.

If you can’t afford to purchase CorelDraw or Illustrator, this free software is a good replacement and supports features like alpha blending, clones, markers and more. The software is so good that in the Los Altos School District located in California, students are using Inkscape to about graphics software and vector graphics. You will find it free to download in the Inkscape.org website.
Foxit Reader is a cool and also free PDF reader which comes with a lot of great features. This software has over 90 million users world wide and you have the possibility to convert the PDF document into a text file and you can also add comments to the PDF document and print the document with the comments. This
cool software also allows its users to type text on a PDF document, to highlight the text or to draw graphics. You can download it for free from the Foxit Software.com
Open Office looks like Microsoft Office, but is free. Is a great software used for databases, graphics, presentations, spreadsheets and word processing. If you are used with Microsoft Office, this software will be very easy to learn. Open Office is under LGPL license which mean that is can be downloaded and used for any purpose like public administration, educational (for schools or universities), commercial or domestic.
The best thing about it is the fact that is stores and saves the file in a international open standard format, so you can open the files, read them or change them from any other office software (for example, Microsoft Office). Download it for free from Open Office.org. Firefox and Opera are great web browser that can be downloaded for free. They are secure, customizable and very popular. Opera is the most secure free Internet browser followed by Firefox.
If you are a Photoshop fan, but you can’t afford to purchase it, you can try the GNU Image Manipulation Program. Don’t expect it to be exactly like Photoshop because it doesn’t have as many features and quite the same functionality, but this is perfect if you want a free image editing software. This
cool software supports a lot of file formats including: PSD, PNG, GIF, TIFF and JPEG. It works on Mac, Windows and also Linux. More information about it you will find on their website Gimp.org. It doesn’t matter if you have the 3G model or the 3GS model, because the differences between them are a few. iPhone is more than just a simple phone, is more than just a smartphone, is a mobile devices that brings together state-of-the-art technology which comes with touch screen, multi-touch interface, great Internet connections, GPS, calendar, e-mail support and more. We don’t have to forget about the amazing applications iPhone can support, for example, applications for cooks, for music, games and outdoors.

Many of us work on the computer all day, even if we are home. And many of you make money from home, using the web or other programs. For those of you who spend a lot of time in front of the computer, the home office is very important when it comes to the design and, of course, the technology.

The coolest home office we saw on the web is the next one from Hard OCP Forums. This office uses huge amounts of electricity because it needs to power 7 LCD monitors, 3 desktop computers and 2 laptops. From our point of view this is too much and this is not a home office a simple person wants to use. This is for business persons and IT employees, and not for a humble person like me and you. Take a look at the picture, it looks like a tanning salon and maybe you don’t need to go this far with your home office.
