Surprisingly (or not), Sony has into its portfolio some excellent LCD HD Televisions with a diagonal varying from 42 inches to 70 inches. However, the price tags are certainly inadequate even for non economic crisis time. I am not really sure how to present these products, since it is impossible to show them in a favorite way, but I must take into consideration the design and hardware package they have to deliver. In the light of the current situation, I have chosen to make a short presentation of each model, leaving you, the reader, and maybe potential buyer to decide either this products are offensive or simply brilliant. There are 19 LCD HD Televisions with a screen diagonal between 42 inches and 70 inches in Sony’s portfolio.

Probably one of the most expensive LCD HD TV’s out on the market is Sony 70 inches Bravia XBR7 Series LCD HDTV, or easily the KDL 70 XBR7. This LCD HDTV has an amazing design with glossy black frame on the front cover, and matter black plastic on the back, with small finishes within the built in speakers (grey frames) or the silver “Sony” logo, which is very small compared to the dimensions of this TV. With a height of 1065 mm (42 inches), wide of 1850 mm (or 72.875 inches), deep of 401 mm (15.875 inches) – including the pedestal, or without pedestal, height of 1012 mm (or 39.875 inches), wide of 1850 mm (or 72.875 inches), deep of 153 mm (6.125 inches), the KDL 70 XBR7 weights about 86.5 Kg (or 191 lbs) with pedestal, or 72.5 Kg (or 160 lbs) without the pedestal.

Therefore, you should be careful not to try to unpack it alone, or set it into your living room by yourself. It sports an enormous feature data base, but in the main features view you will check the full high definition 1080p resolution, the seven high definition inputs, the 10 bit panel and processing, 70 inches display with 15.000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, the Motion flow 120 Hz refresh rate, and the second generation of the Bravia Engine PRO. This TV is a better choice than the previous one since it sports a smaller price tag of $4999.99.

The same price tag is included within the 55 inches Class Bravia XBR8 LCD HDTV (KDL 55 XBR8), which sports the same design as the KDL 70 XBR7. By adding to the design and smaller price tag high features as the Bravia Engine 2.0 Pro, full 1080p resolution Motion flow with 120 Hz Pro refresh rate, 10 bit panel, and the Triluminos RGB LED backlight, Sony successfully delivered one of the best sold LCD HDTV. Within the same price range, Sony offer another two LCDs, the 52 inches Bravia XBR10 Series LCD HDTV (KDL 52 XBR10) and 46 inches Bravia XBR10 Series LCD HDTV (KDL 46 XBR10 for $4499.99). The first model sports beside the full HD 1080p resolution, 1 million to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, Bravia Internet video, Motion flow 240 Hz, Edge Lit LED backlight, and 1080p wireless transmission.

The second model sports exactly the same features but includes a smaller display, from 52 inches down to 46 inches. In the $2000 – $3000 price range you can find several Sony LCD TVs. The first one is on sale from $3099.99 to $2499.99. The 52 inches Bravia XBR9 Series LCD HDTV (KDL 52 XBR9) sports beside the full HD 1080p resolution, a 100.000  to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, Motion flow 240 Hz refresh rate, 10 bit panel, the Bravia Internet video / widgets, and the Bravia Engine 3. With $100 less than the KDL 52 XBR9, you get the KDL 52 Z5100 also known as 52 inches Bravia Z Series LCD HDTV.

This LCD HDTV is a good bargain (from the $2699.99) since it sports beside an excellent design, but also a full hardware package including the latest generation of Bravia Engine, the full HD 1080p resolution, the Motion flow 240 Hz refresh rate, 10 bit panel and processing, 100.000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, 7 HD inputs, Bravia internet video and widget, and the latest Energy Star 3.0 certified. The last Sony LCD HDTV with the price tag between $2000 – $3000 ranges is the KDL 46 XBR9 (46 inches Bravia XBR9 Series LCD HDTV). The KDL 46 XBR9 is basically the same LCD like the KDL 52 Z5100, but with a smaller screen and lacking the 7 HD inputs. However, Sony offers a deal for this LCD, with a $2099.99 price tag (until October 31, from the normal price tag of $2599.99). Under the $2000 price tag, Sony really launched several LCDs. Some of them offer great features for less money, while others have inexplicable price tags.

These LCD HDTVs are from different series, S Series, V Series, W Series, and Z Series. However, at the $1599.99 price tag Sony delivers a product that other manufacturers haven yet successfully created, a LCD TV eco friendly, part of the new VE5 Eco Series. The model, KDL 46 VE5, sports a 46 inches diagonal screen. This LCD TV includes besides the obvious features (7 HD, full HD 1080p, Motion flow 120 Hz refresh rate, 100.000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio, Bravia Engine 2, and energy saving backlight and power switch) at least three important eco friendly features. The first feature is actually the design itself, with the 46 inches display that includes a HCFL backlight high efficient that provides optimum brightness and reduces power consumption to 50% (below the Energy Star 3.0 requirements).

Sony also included a presence sensor which detects if you are in the room or not. In case you have stepped out from the room, the TV will switch the picture off. If in 30 minutes nobody will enter the room (the sensor doesn’t detect movement), the KDL 46 VE5 will turn itself off completely. Even more, Sony included a new switch off, which will not allow this LCD HDTV to consume any power when turned off (because usually any electronic device, even when switched off still consumes power). The retail package is standard, but includes everything you might need (remote control – YD028, two AA batteries for the remote control, AC power cord, pedestal with four screws, operating instructions, quick setup guide, warranty card, and table top stand). If you are looking for a new Bravia powered LCD HDTV, then you should definitely check Sony’s portfolio. Within the 42 inches to 70 inches diagonal LCD HD Televisions range you can find 19 products, from different series, with a retouched design within every series, excellent features even for the $1099.99 46 inches Bravia S Series LCD HDTV.

The prices are certainly not small, but keep in mind that most of the above products have a diminished price tag, since Sony already started the holiday promotions (even if the promotion is only until October 31, Sony will probably extended it until Christmas). Overall, in this economy the key element is the perfect balance between design, features, and price, and the ultimate decision is in the hands of the potential buyers.

In the last couple of years the LCD TVs have successfully improved their market sales, thanks to great features offered for less money than the price tags from 2007. Even if, nowadays buyers are purchasing packages made out of surround sound systems and LCD TVs, the stand alone sales of LCD HD Televisions are still at the sky level. Even the economic crisis didn’t change too much the LCD TV sales. A more accurate explanation of this phenomenon is that educated people (interested within the latest available technology) can’t give up the modern technology. We are talking about laptops, LCD TVs, consoles, mobile multimedia consoles, and so one.

The economic crisis affected directly the less fortunate ones, and the average buyers (only within the purchase of cars, houses, and furniture). For the time being the technology is such an important part of our lives that we can’t give it up just yet. Sony is one of the best manufacturers out there. In order to survive the crisis, Sony adopted a new management plan, which paid off by now. The not essential gadgets, such as digital photo frames, accessories for iPod and iPhone, Blu-ray systems, digital book reader, and others within the same functionalities, kept their price levels intact, while the LCD TVs, surround systems, Laptops, and digital point and shoot camera, diminished their prices in order to balance the negative sales due to the economic crisis.

Sony has three LCD TV categories within its portfolio, the 22 inches to 26 inches LCD HD Televisions category, the 32 inches to 40 inches LCD HD Televisions category, and the 42 inches to 70 inches LCD HD Televisions category. The first category sports two models. The first model sports a 22 inches wide screen diagonal. It is part of the Class Bravia L Series LCD HDTV, and it sports the unique allocated number KDL 22 L5000. Its key features includes 720p resolution, Energy Star certifies, 8000 to 1 contrast ratio, and 6 HD inputs. This TV sports a nice conservative design with the matte black plastic frame.

This TV looks nice, not very modern, but nice, with the all black look. However, don’t expect to get any exclusive finishes like stainless steel frames. The only non black element is the “Sony” logo, with a silver finish. With a varying height from no pedestal to including pedestal, 14 5/8 inches (370mm) to 16 ½ inches (417 mm), wide of 22 inches (558 mm), deep of 3 1/8 inches (79 mm) to 8 1/.2 inches (215 mm – varying because of the pedestal), the KDL 22 L5000 weights about 6.9 Kg (or 15.2 lbs) with the pedestal, and about 6.1 Kg (or 13.5 lbs) without the pedestal. As you may have already imagined it, this Sony device sports a solid build quality, a true investment in every possible way.

If you are interested in the power consumption, because it is all so in vogue right now to drive green cars and buy eco friendly products, you should know that this HD LCD TV sports a power consumption of maximum 55 Watts when used, and less than 1 Watts when left in standby. Even more, this LCD TV really includes good energy saving and efficiency features, such as backlight off mode, eco settings, energy star version 3.0 certified, an annual consumption (average calculation) of 82 kWh, several power saving modes, and computer power management.

In terms of inputs and outputs, the connectivity is well ensured. Beside the AC power input, you get five analog audio input, HDMI port, audio out, component video input, digital audio outputs, HDMI computer connection, composite video input, S video detection, S video Input, one PC input with HD 15 pin, and one 2.0 USB port. Sony embedded within this model, a 21.6 inches diagonal widescreen LCD (backlight type CCFL) with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, an on screen contrast ratio of 800 to 1, with a dynamic contrast ratio of 8000 to 1.

The general aspect ratio is 16 to 9. This display offers great brightness in any environment lighting conditions. Sony really thought about the viewing angles. Therefore you get good viewing angles, for a LCD TV in its class, both right and left angle sport a 170 degree value, while the up viewing angle and the down viewing angle, both sport 160 degree value. Both audio and video department is well represented within this Sony product. In the audio department you get excellent features including  the five in one channel audio out, the alternate audio feature, Dolby Surround Sound technology, several audio modes (such as Clear voice, dynamic and standard), and great “Steady Sound” automatic volume control.

The video department is also well featured. You get several resolutions available, such as 1080/60p in HDMI component, 1080/60i and 1080/24p in HDMI only, and both 480/60p and 480/60i. you also get several video features such as 3D comb filter, 4 to 3 aspect ratio by default, advanced contrast enhancer, “Cine Motion” Reverse 3 to 2 technology, three picture mode (cinema, vivid, and standard), and several wide modes such as zoom, full, wide zoom, and normal mode. The built in speakers will deliver a total audio power of 10 Watts (5 Watts x 2). Sony included in the retail box of the 22 inches Class Bravia L Series LCD HDTV a remote control (RM YD028), batteries AA x 2 (for the remote controls), the AC power cord, warranty card, operating instructions, quick setup guide, pedestal, and 3 screws for pedestal (which has to be assembled).

Overall the 22 inches Bravia L Series LCD HDTV is an interesting choice. It delivers good features within a small package, it looks a little too conservative, but for $399.99 price tag you might just start to love it. Even more, this TV is certainly durable, and can be considered to be a great investment, with the excellent display and Bravia engine.

Even more, Sony offers a full range of accessories for the Bravia line, including Blu-ray Disc Player at $199.99, wall mounting bracket at $249.99, dual arm articulating wall at $119.99, all sorts of necessary cables, Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System for $699.99, and Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System for $599.99. If you want to buy a bigger LCD TV you should consider opting for other display sizes from the Bravia L Series, such as 26 inches, 32 inches, or 37 inches. If you are looking to buy a great LCD HDTV with a full line of accessories with small power consumption, then you should buy a Bravia L Series LCD TV.

The last article was about two 7 inches diagonal digital photo frames, different in style, in features and in price. Although these two frames are only a few of the full range of 7 inches and 8 inches digital photo frames, today I am going to present you one two 9 inches diagonal digital photo frames. how I said yesterday, these frames can easily be considered an excellent present for the upcoming Christmas, not very expensive yet not cheap, modern, nice looking devices, easy to blend in with any decoration style.

The first 9 inches digital photo frames is a new product in Sony’s portfolio, with the unique model number, DPF D92/B. besides its gorgeous design, it sports a few key features such as 15 to 9 aspect ratio LCD, onboard memory that should prove itself worthy of holding up to 2000 photos, included memory card slot, remote control, two special modes for a better usability including calendar and clock mode, auto image rotation (for using this digital photo frame in both landscape and portrait mode), and the USB connection. In terms of design, you should be surprised (in a good way since this is not a laptop lid or a front phone’s case) with the front panel sporting a glossy (yet not scratches and fingerprints magnet) black finish to complement the displays cover. The back cover sports a nice matte black plastic which not only looks but also feels nice.

The frame sports a solid build, not only an exquisite design. This digital photo frame easily blends in with either classic style or modern decoration, making it a perfect Christmas gift. Its dimensions are remarkable in every way, while its weight is considered to be more a 7 inches frame weights rather than a 9 inches digital photo frame. With a height of 189 mm, wide of 276 mm, with a varying deepness from plain – 39.5 mm to the deepness that includes the stand – 144.1 mm, this Sony digital photo frame weights about 810 grams. The back of this frame includes one action button, which will turn on or off the backlit Sony logo.

You can easily store about 2000 photos within this memory value, depending on the resolution and capacity. However in case this value is not sufficient enough just feel free to use any possible available memory cards on the market, such as mini SD memory card, micro SD memory card, SDHC memory card, mini SDHC memory card, MMC, RS – MMC, Compact Flash Type II, XD Picture card with all available formats, Memory Stick memory card, Memory Stick PRO Duo memory card, Memory Stick Micro M2, and many other more (incredible how compatible this frames is with so many types of memory cards).

In case you were wondering the transfer of photos between the memory cards and the inbuilt memory is available not only from memory card to onboard memory, but also from embedded memory to memory card. Sony included into this frame an LCP display (Clear Photo LCD) 9 inches with 186.8 mm x 112.08 mm, with a 15 to 9 aspect ratio, and a WVGA resolution (of 800 x 480 pixels). The files accepted by this screen are in either JPEG format and in RAW format but none of them have to go over the 48 megapixels limit.

You can easily chose what you want this display to show, either a still image playback, or a slideshow playback, slideshow with interval settings, and clock and calendar playback (up to 14 different designs). In terms of connectivity, this digital photo frame is compatible with computers with Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 operating system, Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Professional Service Pack 4, Mac Leopard or Snow Leopard. Sony included in the retail box beside the actual frame, a manual, “read this first” document, warranty card, stand, AC adaptor and a remote control (with several functions such as power, enter, menu, up, down, standby, left, right, view mode, back and alarm).

Therefore, the DPF D92/B offers a complete package in terms of features, and ships with a good retail package for only $169.99 (which is considered a good price for a new product). The second product on this article is another 9 inches digital photo frame, which is not exactly the latest available product on the market. In terms of design, the DPF V900/W looks better in black than in white. Even more this product has almost the same design line as DPF D92/B. I doubt that many people will ever know the difference between these two products. But then again, don’t fix what is not broken, right?

Just like the previous model, the DPF V900/W includes several worth mentioning highlights such as 15 to 9 aspect ratio, about 512 MB embedded memory (which means almost 1000 photos memory depending on the format and capacity), auto image correction, auto image rotation, Bluetooth enabled, and HDMI port. Beside the excellent key features you also get a stylish design easy to blend in (the black color only). Therefore, this frame sports a nice glossy black or white finish on the front side complementing the excellent included LCD display. The build quality is flawless, and it will satisfy every potential buyer.

With a height of 162 mm, wide of 245 mm, and a varying deep value from 38.5 mm to 145 mm (when including the stand), this digital photo frame weight about 800 grams. Therefore, I must advice you to use any kind of memory card you already own since this Sony device is compatible with almost every memory card found on the market, such as xD picture card, xD picture card Type M, xD picture card Type H, MMC memory card, SDHC card, mini SDHC memory card, micro SDHC memory card, Memory Stick memory card, Memory Stick PRO Duo memory card, Memory Stick PRO HG Duo memory card, SD memory card, mini SD memory card, micro SD memory card and many other more. In terms of consumption the maximum power consumption ever recorded is 12 Watts, while the average value is 8.5 Watts.

This digital photo frame has several action buttons such as power on and off, up and down arrows, enter, menu, and even switch off and on backlit Sony logo. Therefore, by using these functions you get to adjust without the remote several settings, such as zoom in and zoom out, image display settings, delete photo, rotate image auto or manual, and other basic functions. Sony included in this frame a 9 inches diagonal LCD (Clear Photo LCD) with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels (198 mm x 112 mm) with an aspect ratio of 15 to 9. This display offers vibrant colors, and excellent photo rendition.

However, keep it away from direct sun light since it doesn’t delivers almost anything under the sun light (washed colors). This shouldn’t be considered a drawback since the photo frames are designed to be used indoors, and under artificial lights only. This LCD display can render only JPEG photos, BMP images, or TIFF photos (which don’t overpass the limit of 48 megapixels). The connectivity is ensured by the same USB connection found on DPF D92/B, Bluetooth capability, and HDMI port (to connect with compatible LCD TV’s such as Bravia).

Sony really made a bad mistake when it decided to lack every cable and adapter from the retail box of this digital photo frame. However you do get the remote control unit with several functions such as power, left, right, up and down arrows, menu, cancel, and enter. Overall, the DPF V900/W is a good product with a nice design and good features. However, with the bad containing retail box and the expensive price tag of $199.99, you should either look for other digital photo frames or wait until Sony will offer for this product a discount.
