Exmocare is bound to bring the Big Brother concept into your lives no matter what your future plans are. With their improved BT2 model, the guys over at Exmocare target the service industry. Just found a way to conceal your every move from your beloved boss? You might want to reconsider.

Bosses all around the world, rejoice and celebrate! In fact, who wouldn’t love to monitor a bunch of employees, knowing their emotional states? So you equip each of your “hard-working” employees with one of these wristbands, and you comfortably sit at your desk managing your business and monitoring all of your subordinates using a special software that was developed by Exmocare. This is actually a control panel that can display a summary of each person’s heart rate and heart rate variability, location, skin temperature and skin conductance levels reported by an equipped BT2.

The BT2 is able to stream all the information through a built-in Bluetooth transmitter, which can continuously work for approximately 18 h/charge. It charges over USB, allowing for continuous use while the battery charges.
What, you were “accidentally” looking at porn when you were supposed to be working and you hope to get away with it? Hope is for the weak, dear employee. The boss “sees ye.” Or you could try doing this as often as you can, that devilish gizmo would break from overuse eventually.

Remember R2-D2 from the Star Wars series? Cute guy and that little bin-like robot knew some holographic tricks, too. Holography has been floating around for some time, but no commercial application has managed to rock our world thus far.

One visionary company thinks this whole situation is about to take a new route, giving us a retro-styled Holocube. This device is supposed to be an all-purpose solution for companies to advertise their products. Instead of annoying fliers, posters and all sort of printed materials, companies can install several Holocubes in key points around the city, saving some trees in the process.

The cube is about 20-inches square wide and it integrates a 40GB hard drive for storing up to 18 hours of compressed video, which can be projected at 1080i resolution within the enclosure. No word on the actual price of the Holocube, but the fact that it is intended for advertising gives us a clue about a pretty high price. Of course, any Star Wars fan could get one of these for their sci-fi-inspired living room. The cube can even be used as a standard monitor, allowing you to watch 3D projected movies or play your favorite video games with a holographic twist.

Once in a while some freelance inventive guy comes with a cool concept, leaves us drooling and jaw-dropping, while the big companies jump around with dubious offers for patent supremacy.
Take for example designer Kyle Cherry who has envisaged a new type of portable computer with creative proficiency in mind. Calling it “Canvas”, Cherry thought of a simple and efficient device that would increase the quality and productivity of designers and artists alike. It even acts as a traditional art canvas, allowing inexperienced users to make the switch from traditional to digital workflows. The “Canvas” concept is even cooler than Wacom’s Cintique LCD graphics Tablet.

This ultra-thin device can be used in three different modes. Artists and designers will be pleased to discover the “pen mode”, which basically transforms the device into a high precision graphics tablet. Then, there is the “touch mode” that allows users to interact freely with the multitude of graphical user interfaces. Last, but not least, is the “mouse mode”, in case you want to heat things up in an FPS game.
As you can see in the provided pictures, the “canvas” or the active surface on which you can draw can be slid and positioned upright, just like a laptop screen. When you pop up the screen, you can use the keyboard and touchpad underneath it. The toolbars and additional information in the actual software can be displayed on the left and right hand side of the device, thus allowing the workspace to be completely blank. You can also use a navigator button, placed under the toolbar area on the left.

This design is simply gorgeous but I wonder which brand name will take over the patent. Maybe the commercial product will appear under an obscure brand, but I doubt it will stay that way for long.

The nutty scientists have already implanted bionic eyes into some poor blinded cats and the lucky creatures got their sight back, more or less. Now, a group of visionary doctors and scientists is spreading hope all over the world with their ingenious bionic eyes that could alleviate some human forms of blindness in a couple of years.

This is part of the Boston Retinal Implant Project, which is supposed to improve on a bio-electronic implant that delivers images to the brain via a connector the width of a human hair. The project has been around for more than 20 years and Dr. Joseph Rizzo III, the founder of this endeavor, points out that “there has been this explosion of interest in this field because basically the technology in the last 20 years has become miniaturized enough and sophisticated enough so that for the first time we can imagine building something small enough to put in the eye.”
The main purpose for now is to restore partial sight to people who have slowly gone blind because of degenerative diseases of the retina. The bionic eyeball the size of a pencil eraser is implanted behind the retina at the back of the eyeball, working as a light transmitter. However, scientists say that this would only work for patients who were once able to see and have partially intact optic nerve cells. People who are blind from birth or suffer from glaucoma cannot benefit from the implant at this time.
Current tests have revealed the fact that the implanted bionic eyes give blind people a general sense of their surroundings so they can function on a basic level. Nonetheless, researchers do hope to improve the technology so that users can recognize things like facial detail and expressions in the near future.
