Coolest Guys

Monday, June 28th, 2010 |

If I am to analyze the phrase “coolest guys” from the grammatical point of view I would say that this is the superlative of the adjective “cool” Any way, superlative is a degree of comparison for adjectives, so it is normal to have some terms to compare, for example the coolest guy on the planet or the coolest guy in my school. So I will talk about these different categories at a time.

First of all in order to be the coolest guy on the planet you must be well known all over the world and you can do that only if you are a public person like an actor, a football player or a very influential political from a very powerful country. You can say for example that Obama is the coolest guy who has ever stayed in the White House. Even the term “cool” is relative, as it does not have a clear definition.

If you look it up in a dictionary you will see that “cool” is described as the opposite of warm, but here it is used as a colloquial term meaning hot, interesting, nice-looking or out of the ordinary. So I guess that being cool means to have something to differentiate you from the others around you, to make you special either in a good or a bad way, because bad guys cal be cool, too. Let’s take George Clooney and Ozzy Osborne – they are both really cool, but really different as the first one is always the good guy and Ozzy is simply crazy.

The coolest guy also depends on the period because each period in time and each geographical area has its coolest guy. Alexander the Great was the coolest guy of his time in Ancient Greece and Lord Byron for example was considered the coolest guy in Middle Aged England and he started fashion trends and literary trends, too.

Clark Gable or Cary Grant were cool guys , too, in their young years, and so was James Dean, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, John Lennon or even JFK. They all has that spark and charm and some personality features that made them the coolest guys of their generations. Now we have examples like Edward Norton, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Bruce Willis, Leonardio di Caprio, Al Pacino and the younger Robert Pattinsonwho started a whole hysteria with the Twilight Saga movies or even Michael Jackson.

Until now I spoke only about international stars, but you can be the coolest guy in your school or town for example if you have what it takes to charm people around you – not only girls, but guys, too. Here are some tips if you want to be cool
- try to be friend with everybody and do not bet on the “bad guy” card as not all the people like this feature
- socialize – make phone calls, go to the disco and club, throw funny parties and enjoy every moment spent with people around you
- have a very good personal hygiene and wear fashionable clothes that advantage you, try not to be very obvious though
- make sure your skin , especially the face is clean , without spots and pimples, as this kind of guys are not that popular
- be confident, but do not show off
- get a cool haircut that is both fashionable and suits you
- try to find a personal style in everything; do not just copy a famous rock star or something.
