Boynq Iris

Maybe you’ve heard of Boynq. They do some crazy webcams and their brand new model looks nuttier still. It’s the multi-functional Boynq Iris which is not only a UVC-compliant webcam, but a 1-piece USB speaker an 8-LED USB light (no wonder it looks like a lamp).

Speaking of lamps, where you usually find a light bulb, at the center of the Iris are the microphone and the VGA CMOS lens which aren’t at all impressive, by the way. Ubergizmo lets us know that the 5W RMS speaker is surrounding the CMOS, while eight LED Lights are located along the circumference which can be used for illumination during video conferencing, for example.

Thanks to it’s lamp-like design, the soft touch rubber Iris can be tilted and rotated like a normal desktop light. There is a little problem with the webcam’s stand: there’s no included mounting system to place it atop your monitor so the webcam will always point at you from an undesirable angle. This could be fixed with the use of duct tape and the like, however.

The fact that this is not an outstanding webcam is also reflected in its price-tag of only £29.99. Anyway, it can make for a decent MP3 player speaker.
