Backpack Bicycle
Things tend to become more and more compact, and this seems to be true with electronic stuff rather than anything else. However, this is not an established law and, to prove that, designer Chang Ting Jen has come up with an interesting foldable bicycle concept.
You might have seen foldable bicycles that can be stored away nicely, but I bet you haven’t thought of a backpack bike. Jen provided enough details about this design, and it seems that a production version would weigh around 12 pounds and fold into a backpack that measures about 2 feet in length. So now, you don’t really need a vehicle to transport your bicycle, you yourself can pick up and carry your bike around just about anywhere.
Sure, the designer is Chinese and where he’s coming, people are really relying on bikes, but Jen also wants to make his backpack bike appealing for other countries in order to contribute to the fight against global warming. The designer initially thought of including plastics in the frame instead of metal to keep the weight down. I’m not sure if plastics would be a good solution for people weighing over 90 kg. Maybe Jen will reconsider his design a bit so it can include a more advanced material that could be used in the frame to add strength and drop weight, even though this may mean that the final price could end up higher.
