Canon offers a full photo solution. From digital camera for amateur photographer or high end digital camera for professional photographer, Canon delivers great digital solutions. What else could Canon deliver for photo fans? Wrapped in one name, it would probability be the Canon PIXMA MP980 Wireless Photo all in one.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
This all in one product has an improved design from its predecessor (PIXMA MP970 Photo all in one), great interactive LCD menu, auto duplexer copier, and so many other excellent features.

The overall design is similar to the one offered in the PIXMA MP line. However, the dimensions have changed, making the MP980 Wireless Photo a more space saving printer. With a height of 7.9 inches (20.07 cm), wide of 18.5 inches (36.83 cm), deep of 15.2 inches (46.99 cm), the MP980 all in one weights approximate 23.6 lbs (10.7 kg), making the device more suitable for any desks. Even if this printer weight a little too much, it worth the trouble because of all the features it has to offer.

The case is made out of plastic with both black and silver glossy finish (it will probably accommodate well with any kind of notebook, computer or MacBook you own). In order to save space you should just fold in the output tray. The first thing you are going to observe on the lid is the centered 3.5 inches high resolution LCD display. On the right of the LCD display, you can find the five way navigational button (up, down, left, right and ok / select).

The buttons are easy to use, they feel comfortable when pressed and deliver a good feedback. Although you might find the MP980’s lid covered with buttons, all this keys will facilitate your access to different functions or settings (home button, increase amount of copies, decrease amount of copies, black copy, color copy, cancel button and others) without going through the actual menu. However, the user interface offered by the PIXMA MP980 is logic and easy to use, helping it to add on its feature list great usability. The maximum amount of pages for the automatic sheet feeder is 150 pages.

Some of the printer attributes contain the good print speed (about 26 pages per minute using only the black cartridge, up to 21 pages per minute using the color option, and about 20 seconds to print a standard four by six board less photo), a total of 6.144 nozzles (512 black and 5.632 color), print resolutions (up to 600 x 600 dpi resolution for back print, and up to 9600 x 2400 dpi resolution for color print). Not only has the printer provided good features but also the copy functions from the MP 980. You can copy up to 24 cpm in black and up to 19 cm for color.

You can reduce the paper copied down to 25%, or enlarge the paper with up to 400%. You really get a lot of good copy features with your all in one MP 980, such as preset copy ratio, continuous copy, image repeat, photo reprint, multiple copies, fit to page, auto duplex copy and others. The third important feature from this device is the scanner function.

The PIXMA MP 980 is equipped with a charge coupled device as the scanner element. You can only scan documents with a maximum size of 8.5 inches by 11.7 inches. The maximum resolution depends on the scan mode, interpolated (19.200 x 19.200 dpi) and optical (4.800 x 9.600 dpi). Just like the copy function, the scan function also brings good features like auto scan mode, push scan, network scan, scan to memory, and others. The MP980 is compatible with all version of Windows Vista, Windows XP / 2000, but also with Mac OS X from version 10.3.9 to 10.5x.

Because the MP980 is an all in one Canon device, it is easily to imagine that the actual installation process is not extremely friendly. Therefore, if you want to install a network connection, you first have to connect the printer by USB cable to a computer or MacBook. After you install the Canon suite, you choose from settings that you wish to use the AIO with a network connection. Only after this step you remove the USB cable.

A better step by step installation process is offered by Canon in user guide delivered with the MP980. However, take in notice that you will not be able to use both wired network and wireless network in the same time. Needless to say that Canon PIXMA MP980 Photo offers excellent quality pictures, which should last 300 in dark storage (not that you will ever find out that this is true or not), 30 years if you keep your photos framed, and 20 years if their exposed to air (good lifetime overall).

The photos also seem to be medium scratch resistant and also water resistant. The Canon PIXMA MP980 Photo all in one print is compatible with a lot of memory cards such as xD picture card (standard, type H and type M), memory stick duo, memory stick pro duo, compact flash card, micro drive, memory stick, memory stick pro, SD memory card, SDHC multimedia card, multimedia card plus, mini SD card, and others. The connectivity is ensured by the Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g standard), Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 n compatible), card slots, Pict Bridge, high speed USB 2.0, infrared, and Bluetooth 2.0.

Canon ships in the containing box, beside the MP980, setup software CD, user guide CD, printer driver, power cord, cartridges (black cartridge, gray / black / magenta / cyan / yellow), print head, USB cable, sample media. You also get a lot of software included such as Easy Photo Print EX, Easy Photo Print Pro, MP Navigator EX, and others. Overall, the Canon PIXMA MP980 offers exactly what it is supposed to offer. If the drawbacks (expensive, slow text output speed, slow wireless performances, no fax machine) don’t bother you, then PIXMA MP980 Photo all in one might just be what you are looking for.

Still looking for the coolest office gadget? An all in one printer with high end features, but middle rage price? Keep looking, you will not find it in the next ten years. However, a good middle range features with a moderate price ($199) all in one printer, might just be available on the market. Which is the manufacturer? The manufacturer is no other than Canon itself. Canon still provides the best all in one printers, either its purpose is for home or office.
<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->
The Canon PIXMA MX 860 Office all in one printer is a model that combines an affordable price tag with excellent features. Its dimensions can be checked in the average range. The PIXMA MX 860 has a height of 22.61 cm (8.9 inches), deep of 43.43 cm (17.1 inches), wide of 49.28 cm (19.4 inches), it weight (too much) about 11.97 kg (26.4 lb). This all in one printer is not for your indoor regular home activity. The Canon PIXMA MX 860 is marketed as an office device, because of its copy functions, auto duplex scan, and also the latest advanced print engine delivered by Canon. The overall design is, well a little dull, but let’s call it less bold than others.

The PIXMA MX 860 is made entirely out of matte grey plastic (it tries to look as a metallic finish). The all in one printer, delivers a great support for memory card. Over ten supported media card, including: xD Picture Card (regular, nut also type H and type M), Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo, SD Memory Card and SDHC Memory Card, Multimedia Card, Multimedia Card Plus, Micro Drive, Micro SD Card, RS MMC, Mini SD Card, Mini SDHC Card, and others. All this slots are being hidden by using a small plastic (what else) door on the front of the printer for a better usability. Probably the first thing that will trigger your interest is the excellent 2.5 inches LCD display. You can use the menu and controls with the four plus one way pad (up, down, left, right and ok).

The second thing you are going to notice is the large amount of buttons Canon used on this cool office gadget. However, you don’t need a user manual to understand their each function and also their real treat when you are on the hurry (just find the button for a setting you needed without going through the actual menu). If you already own a latest PIXMA all in one printer (for home or office) then you should know that setting up the Wi-Fi is not the most elegant feature on this printer. First you have to connect the PIXMA MX 860 with your computer. Install the driver and software.

After install choose from settings that you want to use your device with wireless connection. Shut down the software and disconnect your USB cable that connected the printer to the computer. This is a small explanation of the actual process. However Canon provides with the full and well explained steps you have to take in order to setup the Wi-Fi connection. It will take some time but it is doable, only if you go through all the steps Canon provided. The PIXMA MX 860 provides the 802.11 b/g profile for the Wi-Fi connectivity. However, you can also find on this device an USB 2.0 high speed port, Pict Bridge, and Ethernet. If you use the PIXMA MX 860 for multiple computers, than you definitely have to use the Wi-Fi connection.

However if this office gadget is for one computer only, you should connect it by USB with your computer, because it provides a much faster printing speed. Even Canon recognized this fact. Even so with the inkjet printing method, the black print speed goes up to 8.4 ipm, while the color print speed has a value of 5.6 ipm. You should know that it will take you about 41 seconds to print a color photo. Also the maximum print resolution for black is 600 x 600 dpi, and for the color, the resolution goes up to 9600 x 2400 dpi.  Not only the printer feature from this all in one device provided good results, but also the copy feature, with a copy speed in single mode (not duplex) at about 27 seconds. You also get other great features like auto duplex copy, fit to page, preset copy ratios and other.

The maximum scan resolution in optical mode, goes up to 2400 x 4800 dpi while in the interpolated mode can reach up to 19.200 x 19.200 dpi. The print quality is excellent, from this point of view the PIXMA MX 860 is a great solution. Even the photos printed look great, with vibrant colors and good details. So, you get a speedy printer (depending on the connection used), a good copier and excellent scanner. But you also get a fax, because this is an office orientated device. The fax transmission speed for three black and white pages takes about three seconds, while for the color page will go up to one minute. Canon also included in the fax other features like: scan to memory, network scan, and push scan (with a modem speed of 33.6 kbps).

Canon made the MX 860 compatible with all important versions of operating systems including, Mac OS X from 10.3.9 version to 10.5.x, and Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista (this device will also be compatible with Windows 7). If we take into consideration the excellent package (PIXMA MX 860 all in one printer, documentation – including the user manual, quick install, and CD, USB cable, power cord, special Canon software, print head, telephone line cable, and the six ink tanks), the full specs list (with great results) and an asking price of $199, then one thing is sure, the Canon PIXMA MX 860 Office all in one printer is truly a great balanced device for small and medium offices.

The market is full of point and shoots digital cameras. However, there is still a lot of room left for advanced digital camera, with excellent performances for either professional photographer or maybe demanding customers. Canon offers high end devices as a solution to the market demands. Therefore, in Canon’s portfolio the most powerful and complete solution is the XSx line.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The latest addition to this line is the entry level camera, Canon Rebel XS. The new XS also represents a shift in the Canon strategy. In the past, Canon always released better Rebel models, making the present ones the entry level models. However, Canon decided after the release of the high end model XSi, to launch an almost identical but less powerful (but more affordable) model, Rebel XS. In both hardware and design terms, the XS is a much more attractive model to the mass market than the exclusivist XSi.

The Rebel XS can easily be considered as an XSi replica in terms of design. You will probably not be able to tell them apart. The XS sports are excellent finish made out of black matt plastic (stainless steel chassis). Although this is not a high end material, it was strategically chosen in order to make the camera lighter and easy to use. You also get a silver and black style. Overall the XS leaves a solid feeling in matter of construction.

Unfortunately this impression disappears once you have felt the buttons or if you have used the four way control keys. At best you can say it doesn’t inspire confidence. Canon Rebel XS is actually a kit. Therefore, Canon also delivers a single lens kit, with EF S 18 to 55 mm 1:3.5 to 5.6 IS lens. Even if XS is identical in terms of design to XSi, it still weights less. The Rebel XS has a height of 9.75 cm (3.8 inches), wide of 12.61 cm (4.96 inches), deep of 6.19 cm (2.4 inches), the XS weights about 450 g (15.9 oz), making not the most portable camera around. Compared to the XSi, XS weights less than 1.6 ounces.

Although Canon included to XS a more rubbery feeling cover, the camera is still not that comfortable to hold. In terms of buttons and layout, you basically get the same layout from any other Canon digital camera.

The new Rebels XS copies the button layout of the old model. In the right o the LCD display, you can find the four way controller with the function button, menu button and other buttons in the same area. The Rebel XS also sports a few button above the display to the left (focus and exposure controls), an ISO key, and a multifunction control button. Most of the buttons have a different feeling, making the user experience more easy and intuitive, rather then difficult and Swiss precise. All the provided keys offer fast access to all major features or settings, making the entry menu unnecessary.

One of the most important features, which with XS take advantage in direct competition with other similar cameras is the excellent menu, “My Menu”. This menu is fully customizable; you can even build a shortcut list of the most used camera settings, making the access to sub menus instantaneous. However even such a precise menu, like “My Menu”, can be irritating at times (when you will get two column to navigate, you will have go through the first column in order to get to the second one, rather then just enabling left and right navigation).

The Rebel XS is shipped with a 2.5 inches TFT LCD display with an approximate 230.000 pixels. It is basically the same display from the XS’s sibling, XSi. This display delivers good color rendering and it is accurate. Also it sports a wide viewing angle, almost 160 degrees both horizontal and vertical and a seven level brightness.

The LCD display provides basic information like the battery status, exposure parameters, memory left for pictures or videos. If you are familiar with the old Rebel devices, then you will definitely recognize the LCD display with all the service lines (in the same place like the ones found on XS predecessors); therefore, nothing new in this department. For some customers this might seem a good feature, while for the rest of the potential buyers will be a deal breaker (after all you should see and feel changes from an old device to the new one).

As any other camera display, you can use the screen from the XS in the live screen mode. By doing so, you will understand better about the actual colors the picture will have (the LCD display will accurately show you a preview of the photo – the image you actual see will differ in term of colors and details than the image you will get on the photo). Screen brightness is adjustable because of the lights sensors situated above the display. Also the Rebel XS display will provide information regarding the ISO, focus indicator, flash mode, shutter information, and other image effects. Overall, the display along with the menu is solid features for an entry level digital camera.

One of the most important features for a camera in order to take excellent photos is the autofocus. The Rebel XP provides a manual focus (switch on lens) and auto focus. The XS is equipped with a seven point CMOS sensor with F5.6 cross type at center. The auto focus works on a range of -0.5 to 18 EV at 23 Celsius degrees with ISO 100.

The implemented auto focus brings several modes in order to develop the quality offered (AI Focus, AI Servo auto focus point selection, manual auto focus assist Flash strobe shooting modes, and one shot). Canon included in the new XS a 10.1 megapixel camera with a 22.2 x 14.8 mm CMOS sensor. The total pixels offered by this model are 10.5 megapixels, while the effective pixel numbers is 10.1 megapixels. Also, this camera features a RBG Color filter array and built in filter with self cleaning unit.

The XS has included two shooting modes: creative zone and basic zone. Every mode has its own settings you can change. The basic zone includes settings like flash suppressed, sports, macro, portrait, auto exposure, landscape, and night mode. You can observe that all the settings for the basic zone is offered for shooting the greatest pictures you can. The creative zone features settings like manual, program, aperture priority, auto depth of field, and shutter priority. Canon included in its device standard ISO 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600. The white balance feature has the following presets: auto, daylight, shade, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, flash, but also custom white balance bracketing.

The camera screen displays the following settings or information: shutter speed, aperture, sensitivity, exposure mode, meter / exposure compensation, white balance and fine tuning, custom function set, auto focus mode, drive mode, auto focus areas, bracketing, black and white mode, red eye reduction, image quality, and battery status. The image quality offered by Rebel XS is flawless. From the moment you push the trigger, through the full process you still have an excellent photo. You get three important image resolution from which to chose: small – 1936 x 1288 pixels, medium – 2816 x 1880 pixels, and large – 3888 x 2592 pixels. The output formată are: RAW (.CR2) + JPEG large or fine. Canon added to this great digital camera a 1080 mAh Lithium Ion battery. This battery should be enough for 600 photos. You can easily connect your XS to your computer by using the high speed USB 2.0 port.

You also get video out for PAL / NTSC. The Canon Rebel XS is compatible with SD and SDHC memory card. Like every new Canon camera model, the XS can use its USB port to connect directly to Canon SELPHY printers, Canon Bubble Jet printers with direct print function, and the Pict Bridge supporting Canon PIXMA. If you can get pass the build quality and the average kit Lens then you will discover a great camera with excellent auto focus, clear high ISO pictures, and a large variety of processing options.

Also the shipping box contains, beside the actual XS, the Lens kit, wide strap, USB interface cable, battery pack, video cable, battery charger, and instruction manuals. Overall, the Canon Rebel XS is a great investment. For only $500 you get a good entry level Rebel camera with the best quality photos in its range.

If you are looking to buy a great point and shoot camera, within the middle range, then you should know that you are looking for a 12 megapixel image sensor with 3x zoom lens, in a small package for less than $300. Canon Power Shot SD 780 “IS” is a middle range digital camera with pretty decent specs.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
However, the Power Shot SD 780 is not the best point and shoot camera when it comes to pure photographic power. This camera is not for users that want manual controls on their camera. However using its tiny, good looking design, with very sharp pictures, good video quality and low image noise, the Power Shot SD 780 might just be what you are looking for.

The Canon Power Shot SD 780 has incredible dimensions, making this camera ultraportable. It is so small it will fit in every pocket. Power Shot SD 780 has a height of 54.5 mm (2.15 inches), wide of 87.0 mm (3.43 inches), deep of 18.4 mm (0.72 inches) with an approximate weight of 115 g or 4.06 oz for the camera body only. Power Shot SD 780 comes with a design in four colors, red, silver, gold, and black. The first thing a potential buyer will notice is the excellent grab-attention design. The design is rather familiar with the one found in all the Power Shot range. However, the SD 780 features a single color finish.

Power Shot SD 780 is solid, its build is impeccable, with all sorts of small detail attention only Canon could have provide. The SD 780 is nicely balanced, buttons give a solid feedback when pressed and even the surface integrated zoom toggle is made out of quality brushed metal. Unfortunately, the SD 780 has small buttons due to the tiny design. Because of their small dimensions the keys look hard to press accurately. In a speed use you might even lose control over what you are doing. Therefore when you use the Power Shot SD 780 you have to take your time. This is, however, bad for snapshots. On the back, to the right of the LCD display you can find the four way controller, a three way switch to select from smart auto, program or scene, and movie shooting modes (you can also use the four way controller for up / exposure compensation / rotate, right / flash, down / timer / delete, left / macro and function set).

Also on the back, you can find the menu key, the display button, playback button, status indicators, viewfinder and the cover for ports. At the top of the camera you get the on / off switch and the zoom / shutter release. On the bottom of the Power Shot SD 780 you can find the tripod mount, a cover for access to optional DC charger and memory card / battery cover.

The Smart Auto mode is designed to automatically identify 8 different scene types and adjust the shooting settings. Therefore, you have your access denied from the settings while in this particularly mode (on newer cameras, Canon offers up to 18 different scene types). The SD 780’s menu delivers the best layout you can find on a middle range camera. Canon understood that the menu is an important part of a camera. Therefore it delivers and excellent labeled and organized menu for its device.

There is nothing to learn here, everything is based on logic and deduction. The Power Shot SD 780 comes with a 2.5 inches TFT LCD widescreen with wide viewing angle (Pure Color LCD II), with approximate 230.000 pixels. The SD 780 has a real image optical zoom viewfinder. The LCD comes with a coating in order save it from scratches or fingerprints. The Power Shot SD 780 is shipped with a 12.1 megapixel camera, 1 / 2.3 inches type charge couple device.

The total amount of pixels offered by this model is approximate 12.4 megapixels, with 12.1 megapixels effective pixels. Canon provides for this camera, focal length of 5.9 – 17.9 mm f/ 3.2 – 5.8 (35 mm film equivalent: 33 – 100 mm), a digital zoom of 4x, an optical zoom of 3x, a TTL Autofocus (the autofocus provided is not very professional, however it does include face detection making the camera more productive), and a three mode focus range (normal – 30 cm to infinity, macro – 3 to 50 cm, digital macro – 3 to 10 cm). with this specs the SD 780’s camera can take pictures at the following resolution: 640 x 480 – small, 1600 x 1200 – medium 3, 2592 x 1944 – medium 2, 3264 x 2448 – medium 1, 4000 x 3000 – large, and 4000 x 2248 widescreen. It also records good quality video in high definition – 1280 x 720 with 30 frames per second, standard definition – 640 x 480 with 30 frames per second, and 320 x 240 with 30 frames per second.

The format for the pictures taken is JPEG and for the movies recorded, MOV. All the data is saved on memory cards. Power Shot SD 780 is compatible with the following memory cards: SD Memory Card, SDHC Memory Card, Multi Media Card, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus Card. The flash included on the SD 780 offers a decent performance. However, it will not make a big difference in pitch black environments. The flash range is average: 30 cm to 3.5 meters (W) or 45 cm to 2 meters (T). The video playback is quite good. You get to playback movies in normal or special mode.

Also the camera does a great job in replaying on the LCD display the movie files. You get the auto rotate feature and a small editing feature (erase the part of movies you don’t enjoy and keep the one you like). The Power Shot SD 780 is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery NB 4L with 760 mAh. The battery is too small. Therefore you will find yourself in need for a plug after only 210 still pictures or approximate 300 minutes of playback time. The Power Shot SD 780 provides standard output sensitivity, ISO 80 / 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600. The exposure control method includes, Program AE, -Contrast, and AE Lock. You can easily connect your SD 780 to you computer by using the 2.0 USB high speeds.

The camera offers NTSC / PAL video output but also a mini HDMI cable, in order for you to connect the camera direct to a widescreen LCD. Also you can use the 2.0 USB port to connect the camera with compatible printers, such as: Canon SELPHY Compact Photo Printer, PIXMA Inkjet Photo Printers, and other Pict Bridge compatible printers. Other good features you get are: more than 23 shooting modes, excellent photo effects, self timer (with delay between 2 seconds to 10 seconds), continuous shooting (approximate 0.8 frames per second), and the white balance control for any kind of light you can get indoors or outdoors.

Canon ships the Power Shot SD 780 “IS” digital camera with the standard Lithium Ion battery pack, the battery charger, wrist strap (on the side of the camera), USB interface cable, AV cable and the Digital Camera Solution CD. Overall, if you don’t mind that is a little too noisy, with average flash quality, the occasional scratches you will enjoy the Power Shot SD 780 good features and the solid build quality and fantastic design for under $300.

If you are looking for an easy to use, high performance and great design digital camera, then you are looking for Canon Power Shot SD 1200 IS. Nowadays the manufacturers are trying to make every device an all in one, with so many features. But it is getting out of hand. Not all devices have to be full of specs, and a blended of other three devices. The Canon Power Shot SD 1200 “IS” is an entry level device with outstanding photo quality and performances with a really small price for its features.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
This camera is also a good choice, if you are looking for a light weighted responsive camera for the amateur use. Because it is not a high end model range you may easily skip over the Power Shot SD 1200 IS. Don’t expect to find something else than basic specs. However this model is representative for an ultra compact point and shoot camera. You also get a great design for this small asking price. This model comes with a variety of colors for your very own fashion sense. You can choose from six colors: blue, pink, green, orange, dark grey and grey.

The controls are pretty much standard in all the Canon models. You get the switch button that will help you choose between: smart auto mode (you can’t customize settings, because the camera chooses form 18 predefined shooting situations), program or scene mode and movie mode. To the left you get the play button, bellow this button you can find the four way directional pad. The on and off button is on top of the camera as well as the trigger button.

Near the LCD display you can also find the button to set the display and the one that brings up the menu. In the center of the D-pad you get the “ok” key. Navigation through the menu is straight forwarding. The camera’s user interface is easy to understand even if you didn’t use a Canon model before. However, pay attention to the menu navigation, you don’t want to change some settings or just miss the setting you were looking for. The Canon Power Shot SD 1200 IS has a real image optical zoom viewfinder that narrows the LCD space. Power Shot SD 1200 IS has a 2.5 inches TFT color LCD widescreen with a wide viewing angle (named Pure Color LCD II), with an approximate resolution of 230.000 pixels.

The LCD has a 16 to 9 aspect rotation, impressive for the range, this camera stands for. The Pure Color LCD II is basically a coat for the screen which should keep away scratches and fingerprints. The Canon Power Shot SD 1200 “IS” is shipped with a 10.0 megapixel camera, 1/2 .3 inches type charge coupled device, with approximate 10.3 megapixels and effective 10.0 megapixels. The SD 1200 IS also packs a variety of shooting modes like auto, program, portrait, foliage, snow, beach, sunset, fireworks, aquarium, underwater, ISO 3200, indoor, kids, pets, night snapshot, digital macro, long shutter and movie. For photos effects you can choose from vivid, neutral, sepia, black, white or custom. This camera will shoot approximate 1.4 frames per second in the continuous shooting mode. If you want to take pictures of yourself remember the camera has a self timer with a delay from 2 to 10 seconds. As far as contrast, the Power Shot SD 1200 includes a feature, iContrast that automatically corrects dark areas in the photo.

As for the exposure control department, the camera has an ISO sensitivity of 80 / 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600, with evaluative light metering method and metering frame to the center. For this price you get sharp lens with good features, 6.2 mm to 18.6 mm f/2.8 – 4.9, focal length with a 4x digital zoom and a TTL autofocus. The Canon Power Shot SD 1200 is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery NB 6L with 1000 mAh.
