Test the water before having your neighbor pushed in the pool

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I don’t know you have any interest in doing so when trying to crack a joke on your neighbor, but if you do have a little bit of fear and respect (ok, maybe respect isn’t the word, after all) towards him, maybe you’d like to see if the water is adequate for the nasty guy to be pushed in the pool. Because all you want is to teach him a lesson, not to hurt him, right?

So, if you have a small dose of good sense left, then you should take into consideration the so-called 15 Seconds Pool Water Tester. It will help you… ok, it will help him not to come off with all sorts of diseases.

“This is the handheld device that automatically measures your pool’s water conditions within 15 seconds. It removes all the guesswork employed by systems that require you to compare a test result with a reference chart. Dipping one of the 25 included test strips into the water and placing it into the tester delivers a precise pool water parameters: free chlorine, pH and total alkalinity. The easy-to-read LCD provides a clear digital readout of results, indicating if each of the readings are high, low, or within recommended levels – it also stores up to nine previous test results.”

The device runs on two AA batteries which are not included in the package and can be bought from Hammacher Schlemmer for $69.95.

U Record, a new music file converter

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I, for one, am one of those who grew up with cassette tapes, not with the so very famous compact discs people can’t live without these days. I remember that my mom had a very weird habit, weird for the child I was at that point, to bring, every time she came from work, a cassette tape with the music she most loved.

It was back then when I listened for the first time to artists such as Michael Jackson, who immediately turned into my favorite singer, Bon Jovi or Patricia Kaas. It was then when my taste for music was somehow educated.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

But I found myself in the situation when those cassette tapes are useless these days, because this new era is governed by CDs and DVDs, which is not bad, don’t get me wrong, but what should I do with those tapes?

I could use the U Record Music Converter, this is what, just like any other person who grew up in the “cassette tape” era could do.

“Simply plug this stylish silver box into your computer, hook up your cassette deck or record player and get ready to catapult your analogue music collection into the digital age. The software provided makes it easier than ever to transfer your music onto your computer, clean up those annoying hisses and import it onto iTunes (or any other music software you decide to use).”

The device requires the following compatibility, when it comes to the PC: Windows XP/Vista or Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, 256MB of Ram, 250MB of hard drive space and, of course, CD ROM drive or a DVD one.

The music file converter is available right now on Iwantoneofthose for £49.99.

Not another plastic mirror

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Some combinations are just weird. The word is not enough to express what I want to say right now, but it’s the only one to cross my mind. And, after all, the combination is weird and I think I’ve said everything.

I haven’t seen such thing before, but it was right about time for a device like this one to appear: you can’t tell whether it’s a mirror or a make-up or… yeah, why not, a speaker. Actually it’s a mixture between of the things a woman loves most in this world: make-up, a mirror, music and, of course, the pink color.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The first one is to make the ladies feel the prettiest on earth, the second is to show (or, why not, convince) them how beautiful they are, music helps them conquer anyone, while for pink there is no logical reason for them to be crazy about it.

Being shaped as a compact, this speaker has a mirror inside and a interchangeable face plate that can help the user customize it. In addition, there are a 3.5mm line out jack which is included in the package (it is compatible with an iPod, MP3 or a CD player) and a speaker unit that measures 50 millimeters in diameter. It runs on 3 xAAA batteries. The speaker can be purchased for approximately $24 from BB Shopping.

Classic alarm clock for a modern world

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Classic will never die, of this one I’m sure. Actually, no, I’m positive, because there are some things that are meant to live forever. Because there are still many people who are keen on keeping those things alive no matter what. Because not always modern is the translation of “perfection”.

Not to mention the fact that I, for example, am very much into old things, with that retro look that managed to fascinate me since I was a little girl. This is why I really like this classic alarm clock, even if it doesn’t come with ground-breaking features. Some of you might not be willing to give up on their fancy alarm clock that is able to do more than it’s supposed to, but there’s a modern touch within this MP3 Clock DX that should satisfy your needs.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

It doesn’t double as an iPod dock or a radio, but it is compatible with MP3 format files, so you’ll wake up in the morning with the songs you love most straight in your ears. A great thing about it is the large (very large, as a matter of fact) sound bank that will give you the chance to choose from a wide variety of alarm sounds.

This classic alarm clock requires 3 AA batteries in order to operate and it’s compatible with the following operating systems: Windows XP and Vista, so if you own a Mac that runs on any other system you’ll have to deal with some problems. If you’re interested, go to GeekStuff4U and the device will be yours for ¥ 3,850.00 (meaning $41).

Nite Glowring

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Technology can do wonders when it comes to help us improve the way we live, even if sometimes it’s a little bit expensive for us to keep up with everything that we are being offered. Take lighting for example. Not everyone is blessed with an apartment (or home, it doesn’t matter, I’m referring to a place to live) that is provided with ground-breaking technologies and equipments, where the light is automatically turned on whenever a sensor detects movement.

I have often had the chance to enjoy such an experience when spending my weekends outside my apartment and it was quite impressing for me when I first saw that something like this is actually possible.

The Nite Glowring is a device that could help you change a little bit the way you live.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

“The manufacturers of our Glowrings, who produce military equipment and other need-to-see-at-night items, have taken this everyday nugget of basic science and made it their business. A Glowring is small enough and tough enough to attach to anything you might need to use in the dark, a bunch of keys being the most obvious. But because they can glow for up to a decade, you can leave them hanging off things that only come out once in a while like fishing gear and camping equipment. It does have to be pretty dark to see the glow, but that’s the point”.

Measuring 4.8 x 1.0 centimeters, the Nite Glowring is resistant to water depths of no more than 30 meters and has a visibility in total darkness of 20 feet. It can be purchased for £9.95 from Firebox.
