Laptop concepts for the ladies

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Searching the web for something to write about, I ran into some interesting laptop concepts designed by Nikita Buyanov, especially for the special lady that you must have in your life. The designer was commissioned to come up with a series of concepts dedicated to the female part of the public. And they are all made for HP / Intel.

According to the designer’s confession on the Behance Network, the work was finished in about three days (maximum) for the concepts to be all done, with the minor photoshop corrections included.

Let’s start the incursion, ‘cause you are probably agog to see what the designer prepared for us to see. Here’s the HP Chameleon, a concept that is provided with a microcell coverage which can easily be transformed into a surround background. In addition, the laptop comes with three cameras that are to be used for environment analysis.

And if you’re into the eco-friendly movement, then you should know that the designer has taken care of your best interest with the HP Eco, a model equipped with solar charge cells, with a bar-code reader that can be used for food products and, in addition, a bangle that is meant to help you with the blood pressure control and the pulse.

The HP Fitness, on the other hand, is aimed at those who want to have their weight under control. It is provided with a bangle for sport sessions (including running or stepping).

There’s, of course, the HP Make-Up, because, as you probably know, there’s no woman to hate make-up. The great thing about this model is the fact that, once the big button is pressed, the screen turns into the mirror mode. In addition, there’s an on-nail printing device.

The HP Mama is a laptop that has more lives than a cat usually does. You can’t harm it, as much as you try, not even if you want to break it or sink it. The model comes with a “3D-free monitor section design and two Bluetooth cameras with amplifier for videotracking your children”.

The last two models are the HP Perfume, which gives you the chance to change your laptop to a lap or even to an air freshner, and the HP Nobag, made for people who aren’t very much into regular square laptops.

Even if they are all aimed at the fair sex, I’m sure that anyone can enjoy the benefits of these brand new laptop concepts.

Unique wine glass to light up your life

Monday, March 30th, 2009

You unexpectedly took the decision of your life: to change the way your home looks like. Usually, you get bored very fast with things that surround you and you feel like doing something, anything, in order to feel like your home has nothing to do with the one you were living a couple of weeks ago, even if it is still the same.

Maybe you remember the Coffee-Light, a piece of modern design, created by Juan Valdez for the kitchen of your dreams. The Coffee-Light is based on the use of beautiful coffee cups, and here you have a similar device, called the Glass Light Bulb, equipped with extended life span. If you’re convinced that unusual pieces are the most suitable to your personality, and therefore to your home, then this is just perfect for you.

Designed by Guido Ooms, these wine glass shaped lights have 20 warm white high intensity LEDs, which are said to last pretty much: up to 10 years. The bulb measures 7.5 inches in height and 2.7 inches in diameter (or 19 x 6.5 centimeters), just like a typical wine glass.

This unique wine glass light is pretty expensive, as it costs no more, no less than $120 and it can be purchased from Charles & Marie.

Is eating grass bad for dogs?

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

It doesn’t matter what you think, as long as your puppy loves eating grass. Unfortunately for you and for your garden, it doesn’t think that the grass is always greener on the other side, so it is all set against your yard. You can’t do anything about it, ‘cause, after all, it was you who wanted the little creature!

But here you have something that is meant to help you with a situation like this, coming from Hammacher Schlemmer. Called the Timelapse Garden Video Camera, the device is designed to help anyone who has a garden to keep track of the progress of his/her plants. To be more precise, the camera does nothing but to allow you to watch the grass grow. Of course, if your dog isn’t in the mood for something stupid. For eating, I mean.

“It can focus as close as 20” away to illustrate petal growth or, with its wide 54” field of view, it can capture perennials as they grow to conceal your spent spring bulb foliage. The camera takes a picture at one of six pre-determined intervals (five seconds to 24 hours) and combines them into a single 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution AVI movie file for easy playback on a computer”.

The camera comes with a light sensor that is meant to turn off the camera when the dusk comes and to turn it back at dawn. This way, the video capture is continued each day and you’ll never have it interrupted. No matter what.

After being time-stamped, the pictures are all stored on a 2GB USB flash drive, meaning approximately 18,000 photos. Because the camera will have to work outdoors, it comes with a weather-resistant “outfit”, so it’s able to function from a temperature of 122 degrees Fahrenheit to 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Timelapse Garden Video Camera works on four AA batteries that are not included in the package. They provide about four months of operation. Interested in it? Go to Hammacher Schlemmer and it can be yours for $159.95.

Look at that man with a movie camera!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Many of us have the impression that they are interesting characters and that they deserve to be in the spotlight and to have the cameras on them each and every minute of their lives. It might be true, but come on! Just because we pretend we have something to say it doesn’t mean that we should catch everyone’s attention.

Anyway, here’s a gadget for all of the Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt wannabes out there, a Retro Movie Camera Webcam which is designed to make you feel like a little star. Maybe you won’t have the public Angelina or Brad have at their feet, to adore you and worship you and tell you how smart and beautiful / handsome you are. But it will at least help you enjoy the ultimate online experience.

This new webcam, shaped as a retro movie camera, comes with its own tripod, which is meant to help you place the device on your desk, if you like, or to mount it on the top of your monitor. You must agree that it looks a whole lot better when sitting on the tripod. Measuring 3 x 2 x 1 inches, the webcam is compatible with a PC or Mac and there’s a USB connection involved.

“It’s true, you oughta be in pictures… Give your online chats the Hollywood treatment they deserve with this great webcam that resembles a professional movie camera! Simply mount it on its tripod or clip it on, connect via USB and now you have the ability to snap pics and share videos”.

If you want to become the man with a movie camera, go buy this Retro Movie Camera Webcam for $40 from Fred Flare.

No more bathroom accidents!

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Let me tell you a little story about a girl that once went to a very well fast food with a couple of friends. As she has the habit to always wash her hands before eating, she decided to go to the bathroom. It’s just that technology left its mark on each and every little corner of the earth, so she needed a helping hand in order to enter there. After a couple of minutes, just when she wanted to go out, the light went off. Great, she said! But surprise, surprise! When trying to open the door, the door was locked. She pressed the button placed on the wall, after she covered the whole wall with desperate “touches”, in order to find it. She knocked on the door, hoping that someone will hear her and will release her from this nightmare. Not to mention the fact that, unfortunately for the girl, she was claustrophobic.

Ridiculous accidents like this one can happen all the time. But imagine that it might happen to you at home, when you’re all alone and there’s no one to save you.

This is why the Help Lock might be a great solution to help us prevent unexpected situations. The device is designed to remove any concern you might have when it comes to be locked in or out. The Help Lock is provided with a timer mechanism and an alarm. Whenever a person enters the bathroom and locks the door, the timer is automatically set. When the set time is over, the person inside is be reminded to cancel the alarm.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

You’ll have 30 seconds at your disposal to answer, and if you don’t, the door will be automatically unlocked, a sound alarm will be enabled and an emergency number will be dialed. Don’t worry, you’ll have the chance to set the emergency number, so it doesn’t have to be the common 911.

Designed by Haishan Deng, the Help Lock is still a concept for the moment.
